My Favorite Dates I’ve Been On

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Geneseo chapter.

Happy Valentine’s Week, everyone! I know some people get annoyed about it, but I love love. And not just romantic love! I just love any type of relationship that two people can have—I think it’s so fun and should be cherished.

That being said, this Valentine’s Day I wanted to reflect on some of my favorite dates my boyfriend and I have been on! We’re coming up on four years of being together, so I’ve got quite the list to choose from. Also! If you guys are currently dating anyone, I hope you can get some fun date inspirations.

  1. The Bradenton Community Theater

This one has quite the backstory to it, but it is so funny. So almost every year Jacob (my boyfriend) and I take a trip down to Florida to visit my aunt and uncle and enjoy the weather we do not get in Buffalo. So it was our final night there and my aunt had two tickets to see a community theater show that her friend was in. The show was Head over Heels and my aunt gave us the two tickets she had. The next three hours genuinely felt like a fever dream, but I smile every time I think about it. First of all, the musical itself is so weird. It’s a Shakespearean-esque love story coupled with music from The Go-Go’s. Not what I was expecting at all. The whole time we sat there in shock and awe of what we were watching. At one point there was a sex scene on stage with like three couples having sex at the same time. You would not believe the amount of Floridan old people that got up and left. Regardless, Jacob and I had so much fun and I genuinely love recounting that night with him.

2. Spider-Man: No Way Home

A fairly recent date Jacob and I went on was going out to see the newest Spider-Man movie. I won’t give any spoilers here but let me just say I was a wreck when we left the theater. Jacob and I both love Marvel and watching the movies and TV shows is a favorite pastime of ours (our current favorite is Daredevil). The entire time we were watching this movie, we were so excited and it was wonderful to watch such an amazing movie with someone I know also loves this made-up world as much as I do. The rest of that night, that was essentially the only thing we talked about but it was so much fun. I know movies are kind of a basic date, but going to see a movie that you are both passionate about is unmatched.

3. Glen Falls and Sweet Jenny’s

Anyone who lives around Western New York may know Glen Falls as an adorable little waterfall that runs off of Ellicott Creek. For our three-year anniversary, Jacob and I took a trip to Glen Falls to relax in the park. We sat on the grass in front of a little pond and watched two ducks swim together. It was so adorable and peaceful to just sit with each other and watch the Earth. We both love being outdoors and fish (Jacob especially), so I sat and listened to him point out different species of fish swimming in the little pond. After a while in the park, we walked up the hill to a combination ice cream and comic shop called Sweet Jenny’s. This place is insane for any comic book fans. The entire top of the ice cream shop is covered in comic books and memorabilia. We spent forever browsing through the different comic books and even buying a couple we both want to read. Between the two of us we have an ever-growing collection of both books and comic books and I love when we go together to find things to add.

4. The Beach

I know I mentioned that my boyfriend and I both love the outdoors, but I actually hate the beach. Sand is like my mortal enemy, I get super anxious because I feel like I can never get it off of me. So, when Jacob and I go to Florida, we do go to the beach, but we are very particular about it. I am either in a chair reading while Jacob fishes off the shore, or we are both in the water messing around. I do love going in the ocean or in Lake Erie on a hot day, and I always hope to see some fish swim by me. But other than that, I mainly just read on the beach. Jacob is very in tune with my particularity and he always tries to make sure he’s not getting sand on me, which I really appreciate. So, while I don’t love the beach, I do really like going with him. There’s no denying that beaches are beautiful, so I’m glad I found someone I am always comfortable going there with.

I realize that I can’t account for four years of dating with just four dates, but these are the ones that come to my mind when I want to tell people on a date that Jacob and I went on.

Happy Valentine’s Week, and take this time to reflect on someone of your favorite dates you’ve been on!
