King Princess Just Released a Single Called “Pussy is God” and It’s Everything We Need

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Geneseo chapter.

If you don’t already know who King Princess is, you’re about to be introduced to the newest young “celesbian” who’s been taking the internet by storm.

Mikaela Straus, better known by her stage name, King Princess, is 19 year old from New York City whose unapologetic lesbian anthems have become solace to a niche fanbase of young queer women. Her latest single, “Pussy is God” has been long awaited since her debut EP “Make My Bed” was released in June.  The wait was worth it—this song is everything we need.

Apart from it’s bold name, “Pussy is God” is an unexpected and beautiful pop ballad.  King Princess brilliantly combines a word with dirty and insulting connotations with the divine—God.  In doing so, she destigmatizes the most socially taboo part of some women’s bodies.

This also isn’t the first time King Princess has played with religious imagery and sex. “Holy”, which was released on the “Make My Bed” EP similarly toys with Christian sexual restrictions and the inherent resistance of gay sex.

Furthermore, “Pussy is God” tackles the constant societal defamation of women and their bodies and instead insists in their beauty and worth. King Princess’s proud declaration and open discussion of such topics normalizes her romantic and sexual attraction.  In a world in which gay sex is ostracized and women’s sexualities are policed, “Pussy is God” creates a safe space for the celebration and reclamation of love and sex between women.

King Princes sings:

“You know that it’s God, baby, when you’re around her

I’ve been praying for hours

You know that it’s God, baby, when you’re around her

She’s God and I’ve found her, oh”

These messages are precisely what young queer women today need to hear.  Among the flood of stereotypes that women loving women face in our society, we need to see messages that our love and desire is beautiful.

What ever else King Princess has in store for us, we’re ready for it.  Personally, I hope it’s dad hats with “Pussy is God” embroidered on the front.
