10 Not-Really-Necessary-But-Still-Not-a-Complete-Waste-of-Money Things to Buy For Your Dorm

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Geneseo chapter.

Ever wanted to spend money on a whim, but weren’t actually committed enough to buy something completely frivolous? Her Campus at Geneseo has your back. Here are ten items that you don’t really need in your dorm, but could make things a little easier.

1) “MyLifeUNIT Mug Holder Tree” ($10)

Perfect for organizing all of those mugs you keep picking up for 25 cents from Goodwill.

2) “Yizi Zakka Cotton Oven Mitts” ($12)

Time to stop taking hot pans out of the oven with folded towels, collegiette!

3) “Goodnight Moon Tote Bag” ($18)

Totes are good when you have to get around campus with a laptop, but don’t necessarily need the rest of your backpack—like when you’re going to campus clubs or local events. Why not have a cute one?

4) “YUYIKES Reusable Grocery Shopping Tote Bags” ($14.74)

Save a tree, use a reusable bag the next time you go grocery shopping.

5) “Silicone Shark Infuser” ($6)

Sometimes it’s nice to have loose tea, and not the same five Wegmans brands you keep buying.

6) “Giant Microbes Soap Dispenser” ($22.90)

What a literal way of reminding you to wash your hands.

7) “Flower Spoon Set” ($10.99)

Spice up your utensils! They make knives in the same color too.

8) “Micro Landscape Plant Pot” ($26)

It’s a more interesting pot for your farmers’ market succulent than your average terracotta pot!

9) “Simmer Stone Rose Gold Wall Grid Panel” ($26)

While this might take a little careful assembly depending on where you live and how married you are to the idea of not damaging your walls, a wire rack can be a space-saving blessing in a cramped dorm.

10) “Shit Could Be Worse Tapestry” ($16)

While it doesn’t serve an actual purpose like everything else on this list, it does impart an important reminder, and that’s good too.

Happy shopping!
