Every year, the Super Bowl game comes around and fans, or bandwagoners, put on their jerseys to cheer on the next football champ. No matter if you’re a fan or interested in football or not, only watching the commercials and the half time show, or if you are in it for the food, it is still one of the biggest events televised. The last Super Bowl was viewed by 114.4 million viewers and the half time performance was viewed by 118.5 million people. It has been statistically proven that millions of people enjoy the Super Bowl. Regardless if you are a fan or not, here are some interesting facts to get you in the Super Bowl spirit! 

1. Jerry Rice currently holds the most touchdown catches in Super Bowl history with 8 catches. He is known as one of the greatest wide receivers of all time and is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Rice played 20 years in the NFL, won a total of three Super Bowls, and was picked as the Super Bowl MVP for one. Rice holds 36 NFL records, and in 2010 was voted as the number one player in the NFL Network’s Top 100: NFL’s Greatest Players. 

2. The Steelers have won the Super Bowl the most often. They have won a total of 6, and are notoriously called the Sixbugh Steelers. They have played in a total of eight Super Bowls, and won four of those in six years. The New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, and Dallas Cowboys have each won five Super Bowls. 

3. Both teams, regardless if they win or lose, still get paid. Each player on the winning team take home around six figures. In total the players on the winning team will earn $107,000 from the game. Furthermore, they would have already received $27,000 in winning the division and $49,000 in their conference. The losing players will also take home around $53,000. 

4.Super Bowl LI is the only Super Bowl game to ever go into overtime. The New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons were 28-28 at the end of regulation time. The Patriots scored a touchdown in overtime winning 34-28. The overtime period is a 15-minute session where both of the teams get three timeouts. 

5. Four teams have never been to the Super Bowl. The Lions, Texans, Jaguars, and Browns have never been to a Super Bowl. Furthermore, there are thirteen teams who have never won a Super Bowl. The Bengals, Bills, Browns, Cardinals, Chargers, Eagles, Falcons, Jaguars, Lions, Panthers, Texans, Titans, and Vikings. 

6.On Super Bowl Sunday, people drink an estimate of 323.5 million gallons of beer and eat 1.25 billion chicken wings. Domino’s claim that it is their third busiest delivery day of the year. They sell around 11 million slices. Additionally, people spend $227 million on potato chips and $13 million on vegetable trays. This doesn’t even account for the amount of guacamole made for this day. It is estimated that 104.9 million pounds of avocados will be eaten on Sunday.
