“When words fail, music speaks.” This is a phrase that has brought me comfort throughout the years. Music is one of the most stunning aspects of life. The world is constantly offering a melody, the waves that continuously crash on the shore, birds chirping and hearts beating. Music is the rhythm of life; it plays to comfort or energize the soul. Each individual note serves a purpose to be a part of one greater piece. When these pieces are connected, they harmoniously create a song, which some of us cannot live without.

Music helps us dive deep into our emotions. There is something that provides us with comfort when we hear a song, something that words could never fulfill. These songs often connect back to a memory. Whether it was jamming to your favorite tunes in the car with your best friend or simply relaxing at home, that particular memory will often play on repeat. When we can connect these songs to a joyful memory, it fills our soul with serenity. It is as satisfying as sitting indoors and hearing the rain fall steadily on the window. If you ever feel alone, put on your headphones and escape reality for a while.

While the music is playing, I attentively listen to discover what the message is. I allow the words to sink in, to meditate on what the artist has to say. Music has influenced the way I look at my surroundings. It is easier to become more aware of the little things that nature has to offer. If you step into a rainforest you will hear the serene sounds of water flowing through rocks, the crunching of sticks beneath your feet, and an abundance of vocal animals. This is nature’s message that there is life here.

It is great to be bold and listen to something new. Luckily, I have been blessed to perform music for people. As a guitar and piano player, it is essential to set the mood for others. After a tiring day, it is an instant relief to know that I have music to turn to. Originality keeps me eager to create new and unique rhythms. Our rhythms of life are constantly being re-arranged to form new songs. Like flames in a roaring fire, music causes us to dance. Just like any book, music provides you with the freedom to expand your imagination.

Listen to your friends laugh, the ticking of a clock, rushing waterfalls, or wind that effortlessly whispers between the trees. These are the rhythms of life; these are the ones that we cannot get enough of.
