You all might know Mandy Moore as the actress who played Rapunzel in Tangled, Jamie in A Walk to Remember, or most recently Rebecca in the TV show This Is Us. She has blown people away with her heartfelt acting and has finally released an entire album of music called Silver Landings. Mandy Moore’s voice is not only gorgeous, but her style of music is unique, down to earth, and thought-provoking. There are ten songs on her new record, and each are worth listening to on repeat.

The first song on the record is called “I’d Rather Lose” where Mandy sings about the theme of morality. Not a lot of artists go for the topic of right versus wrong in their songwriting, but Mandy seamlessly incorporates morality into her song lyrics while still directing the song toward her own personal experiences. Her next song, “Save a Little For Yourself” focuses on the topic of self-love. Self-love is brought up in many songs in modern day like “Love Myself” by Hailee Steinfeld and “I Love Me” by Meghan Trainor; however, Moore’s song of self-love is not just a song with a good beat to give you a spurt of self-confidence. It is a soothing song with a powerful message that gives you a lasting sense of how you should treat yourself. In her third track, “Fifteen,” Mandy reflects how she lived her non-traditional life as an aspiring singer and actress. She relates her experiences to her audience through universal life epiphanies. The chorus is about how she had no regrets with how her life went for the most part. She then goes on to explain how “every wrong turn was the right direction” and will forever remain to be a “part of [her].”  Take a look and listen to her lyrics, and you may be surprised at what you hear that will apply to your own life. The next song, “Tryin’ My Best, Los Angeles” is similar to “Welcome to New York” by Taylor Swift only it is Los Angeles. There are hardships, opportunities, and dreams that Mandy reflects on through this song. Her next song “Easy Target” is about vulnerability and having an open heart. Yet again, her songs on this album involve topics that are not always openly talked about in daily conversation or even music. With that being said, her content is like a glass of refreshing lemonade. Her music does not induce stress, it relaxes the mind and calms the spirit.

The hit song, “When I Wasn’t Watching” was the first single to come out for this album. The two key themes in the song consist of identity and morality. Following this song are four more tracks called “Forgiveness,” “Stories Reminding Myself of Me,” “If That’s What It Takes,” and last but not least “Silver Landings.” All of her songs are embedded with deep meaning, and unique musicality. If you want to listen to something that is not the typical pop genre, Mandy’s take on music is one worth exploring.

Hello everyone! I My name is Clara and I am pursuing my college degree in English for Secondary Education. Reading and writing are some of my obvious passions, but I also have a love for music. Singing worship music in particular is one of my creative outlets when I am not writing. One of the reasons I enjoy writing so much is because the possibilities in the writing world are endless. There are infinite ways to construct a sentence, paragraph, article, or book. I find that amazing!
