Lauren Iuliano '18

Who is Lauren? Lauren is an incredible person that I have the privilege to know. She is from Tucson, Arizona, and a Dance Performance major at Grand Canyon University. She has the most genuine and positive personality I have ever seen. Her smile and laugh is enough empower a room, and she channels this amazing energy into the world of dance. Lauren’s love of dance and amazing talent brought her to Grand Canyon, as she is part of the GCU dance team.

Q. How old were you when you started dancing?

I started dancing for fun at the age of five, but I didn’t become serious about it until I was 16.

Q. What made you decided to dance for GCU?

When I was a senior in high school, I considered starting my career right away by moving to a bigger city and auditioning for gigs and companies in the dance world, but I didn’t feel ready to take such a big step and I didn’t want to miss out on the college experience. GCU was the perfect decision for me because they have a great dance program, wonderful faculty, and incredible opportunities for a future career.

Q. What your favorite part about dancing?

My favorite part about dance is that it is artistry in motion- I am able to be both an artist and an athlete who understands the capabilities of the human body and how movement can be translated into a story.

Q. What is your favorite part about dancing for GCU?

I love getting to be a part of so many different shows and performances every semester at GCU, whether it is a formal dance concert, a student-choreographed show, or even a flash mob.

Q. When you aren't dancing, how else do you spend your time?

When I’m not dancing, I am teaching and choreographing at a dance studio in Scottsdale, planning events as an officer for GCU’s Student Dance Education Organization, hanging by the pool, trying new culinary finds, and adventuring around the West Coast.

Q. What advice would you give to other young dancers?

I would tell young dancers to explore, train, create, and enjoy dance as much as they can. If you love it, never stop! Dance is such a great outlet to let everyone, young and old, express themselves, get active, gain discipline, attain goals, and feel accomplished.

Q. How will you incorporate dance into your future?

Dance is always going to be a big part of my life, whether I am teaching ballet to six-year olds, performing with the New York City Rockettes, running a dance company, or directing a high school dance program. There is nothing I am more passionate about then spreading God’s gift of dance to the world!

Be sure to catch Lauren’s amazing talents live at a dance show coming up on April 15th and 16th at 7:30 at the Ethington Theatre. Show you support and attend this amazing event with incredible dancers!
