College can be beauty time to find yourself and discover what you are passionate about. It is a time of imperfection, stress, growth, and accomplishments. Picture climbing a mountain; the journey you take climbing that mountain demonstrates the hard work, determination, and endurance to reach the top. The same applies to one’s journey through college. The years that are spent in college work to shape you into the stronger person you are meant to be. E.E. Cummings, a well-known poet, playwright, and visual artist, once said, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are”. Here are three inspirational books that every college student should read.

Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes

Shonda Rhimes is the creator of the popular shows “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal”. She also was the executive producer for the TV show “How to Get Away With Murder”. Rhimes’s novel delves into her experiences during a year when she said “yes” to everything that she feared. Rhimes also did a Ted Talk presentation where she further discussed her experience with her saying “yes” project. “Year of Yes” is a great novel to read to remind yourself not to let fear control the decisions made in your life because you never know what boundless possibilities could present themselves if you just say “yes”.

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero

This book is an incredible read helping readers to be able to identify key attributes about themselves and be able to achieve their best lives. There are several exercises throughout the entirety of the novel that helps readers to identify certain beliefs, attributes, and habits that could potentially be limiting an individual from reaching their full potential. This read is a great book to pick up if you are in need of motivation to achieve the goals and dreams that you want to reach in your life. “You are a Badass” is a fun, comical, and inspiring book that helps readers to step outside of themselves and honestly evaluate behavioral patterns that are in the way of becoming our best selves.

Choose Yourself: Be Happy, Make Millions, Live the Dream by James Altucher

In this phenomenal read, the author Altucher presents the idea that the most valuable asset that should always be invested in is ourselves. Throughout the book’s entirety, Altucher illustrates how people can invest themselves in the best way possible to maximize their success and personal growth. This is a great book for individuals that have an entrepreneurial spirit. However, overall, this book is extremely motivating and inspiring that every college student should read as they work towards their dreams and goals.

There will be points in your college journey where you may stumble and fall, but in the end, you will become something better, stronger, and more beautiful. Thinking back to the words of E.E. Cummings, this is a fantastic time in your life, and you are going to blossom into an amazing person. Use these books to motivate and inspire yourself to reach new heights.
