Getting the Most Out Of Your GCU College Experience

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCU chapter.

Being thrown into college and into adulthood can be scary at first. You may not know what to do or where to start or how to make new friends and meet new people. Here are some ways that you can make the most out of your college experience.

Get Involved

The best way to get the most out of your college experience is to get out of your comfort zone and get involved. Look for opportunities on campus to go out and meet new people. GCU puts on an entire week of events for students at the beginning of the fall semester to get students involved and have fun and meet new people to help make the college transition a little easier.

Join Clubs

There are so many different clubs that you can join on campus. At the beginning of each semester, GCU hosts a club fair for you to go around and learn about all of the different clubs that you can join. You never know what you could find that you would be interested in. There is something for everyone and every hobby. Joining clubs is a great way to meet new people who enjoy the same things as you and a great way to make new friends.

Go to Life Group and Community Gatherings

There are so many opportunities to get involved and meet new people right in your building. On every floor of every building there are life leaders and RA’s. Life leaders arrange a weekly bible study called life group where you can connect with people on your hall and grow in your faith and connect more with God. When going to college it is easy to lose that connection with God and life group is a great way to help get back on track and stay connected in your faith with God.

Resident Advisors (RA’s) plan community gatherings once a month and plan fun events to help the residents in their hall get to know each other more and connect with one another. This is a great way to meet the people who live on your floor and grow your relationships with your RA and life leader.

Go to Events

GCU has a student leadership team that is dedicated towards throwing event on campus called Canyon Activities Board (CAB). They are constantly putting on different events multiple times a month. They arrange anything from movie nights, midnight breakfast, formal events, and seasonal events such as haunted houses and winter themed events. These events can be so much fun and a great way to make college memories with your friends.
