Fashion Staples to Channel your Inner Girl Boss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCU chapter.

Yves Saint Laurent once said, “I have always believed that fashion was not only to make women more beautiful, but also to reassure them, give them confidence.” Clothes have the power to make you feel more intelligent and important.

According to the Association for Psychological Science in 2015, professional outfits in the workplace can influence many important factors from the way people approach decisions to the way people focus on a task. The mood change influences the way you interact with your co-workers and others through boosting your confidence. Look through these closet staples and see what you could add to your closet to channel your inner girl boss for every occasion.

1. Chic Blazer

A blazer has the power to turn any outfit into a chic look. If you don’t have a blazer in your closet, purchase one immediately. Quality blazers can cost upwards of two hundred dollars, so be sure to stop by your local thrift store before going to the popular brand names, such as Loft, Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, & Nordstrom. If you are going to spend the money, be sure to buy a black or neutral color, so you can reuse it for every occasion.

2. Floral or Patterned Blouse

After picking out your perfect blazer, an ultimate blouse to wear underneath is a must. A blouse can be the perfect way to add a pop of color to your ensemble. Bishop, bell, batwing, and puffed sleeves add an additional level of sophistication. You can pair these tops with any type of simple neutral skirt or business slacks.

3.Neutral Flats

Ballet flats offer versatility to your wardrobe. You can pair them with any outfit to add a level of sophistication. Plus, they are much more comfortable than your average pair of heels. Ballet flats are very affordable. Pairs of ballet flats are priced as low as ten dollars, which is a huge plus. They are also super compact and can be stored anywhere.

4. Black Slacks

A pair of good slacks are perfect for those non-jean occasions. Make sure you find a pair that fits you well and feels comfortable. You can venture for a capri, paper bag, bootleg, or straight fit. It may be best to purchase more than one pair as they are so versatile.

5. Tote Bag

Tote bags go perfectly with all your formal outfits. They are professional, yet functional. They hold plenty of room for your last-minute makeup touches and notepads.

6. Neutral Dress

A great dress always comes in handy, and we all have those days where we don’t feel like zipping up our pants. When going on business trips, they are not too bulk and easy to pack. A perfect dress can always be dressed up or dressed down in a flash. Classy belts and fabric ties help keep the shape of your dress.

Find clothes that make you feel confident. Create your own style and don’t get caught up in fashion trends that you don’t love. Gravitate towards clothes that make you feel your best and most like yourself.
