4 Phoenix Restaurants Every College Student Should Try (As Recommended by College Students)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCU chapter.

Whether you’ve lived in Phoenix your whole life or you’re just starting out your time in the Valley, here are four restaurants you must try out while at Grand Canyon University as recommended by four college students who love Arizona and trying out new eats.

1.) Joyride Taco House

Recommended by Adriana, a GCU freshman who has lived in Arizona for the past 16 years. This taco shop located both in Downtown Phoenix and Gilbert will pull you in with its hip vibes and deliciously fresh food. Joyride is a great spot to enjoy with friends on any night of the week, but especially on $2 Taco Tuesday (and let’s be honest, what broke college student isn’t interested in $2 tacos?).

2.) True Food Kitchen

Although she’s only been in Arizona for a few weeks, Dasha, another GCU freshman, has already discovered and fallen in love with this health-conscious spot. True Food caters to those who are looking for nutritious meals, but are not willing to sacrifice great flavors. Serving everything from burgers to vegan ice cream, the True Food menu has something for everyone, including those who are gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan. Their menu is seasonal, so no matter when you stop by True Foods there will always be something new to try!

3.) Original Chop Shop

Ariana, a student from Gilbert, Arizona, is a big fan of Chop Shop and their self-proclaimed “feel good food.” Serving protein bowls, sandwiches, and much more at several locations around the Phoenix area, Chop Shop will always deliver delicious meals crafted from whole and nutritious ingredients. You will always leave Chop Shop feeling fueled and ready to take on whatever college life may bring.

4.) In-N-Out Burger

I could not write a list of best Phoenix restaurants without including my own personal recommendation, the fast and casual burger joint, In-N-Out Burger. If you have lived in or visited states such as Arizona or California, chances are you have had the opportunity to experience this staple of the Southwest. Combining fast service and delicious burgers that are made to order with fresh ingredients, In-N-Out is a must-see destination while in Phoenix. And with several locations around the Valley, you’ll find it hard to resist grabbing a juicy burger with Animal-style fries at one of their iconic red and white buildings.
