3 Ways to Spend Valentine’s Day with Your Gal Pals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCU chapter.

Valentine’s Day is approaching, and that day can be hit or miss for some people. If you’re in college and single, you don’t have to dread Valentine’s Day! Instead, make it a day to celebrate yourself with your closest girl friends (or guy friends!) You don’t have to spend the day in bed with chocolate sobbing over Hallmark films. Instead, try these three ideas to have a great Valentine’s Day with your friends.

  1. Have a Spa Night

If you’re looking to spend Valentine’s Day at home, have an uplifting spa night! Run to Target or Ulta with your besties and pick up some spa night must-haves, like face masks, nail polish, and treats! Check Spotify for a calming playlist, head back to your rooms, and spoil yourself. You can also gather a ton of treats, rent (or Netflix) a few uplifting movies, or even play a board game! If you don’t have a significant other or can’t be with them on V-Day, a spa night is to spend time spoiling yourself. Valentine’s Day may make some girls feel alone, and when you spend time with your closest friends spoiling yourselves, you’ll feel so relaxed.

  1. Go Out

Although restaurants are going to be filled with happy couples all night, that shouldn’t stop you and your friends from going out! Treat yourselves by getting ready and going out together. Stop by a shopping mall, a bar, or a nice restaurant and have fun. Valentine’s Day restaurants aren’t just for couples. Valentine’s Day is for love, and if you love your friends, don’t be afraid to show that publicly! One piece of advice is for you and your friends to try some place new. Have you been thinking about trying that sushi place downtown but never had the courage to actually go? On Valentine’s Day, try something new! It may be disheartening to be surrounded by happy couples, but you’ll be with your happy best friends, and is that so bad?

  1. Disconnect

Some people who don’t have a valentine really dislike Valentine’s Day, and if you’re one of these people, you should disconnect for the day! Turn your cell phone off or delete your social media apps and do something fun with your friends. Go bowling, go to the beach, go for a hike, or just stay at home! Aside from escaping the Valentine’s Day madness, disconnecting is good for the soul. Disconnecting for a day gives you the opportunity to live in the moment and embrace the present. If Valentine’s Day brings your single-self down, the key here is to not pay attention to it. Luckily for you, Valentine’s Day is only one day, so you won’t be bombarded with Instagram pictures of chocolate and kissing for too long.
