Let the Cold Steal Your Style No More

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

We’ve all been there. It’s early morning, your alarm just went off, your bed is emitting steam heats you can actually see, and all you can think is, “I don’t want to go to class. Ever.” But, that cute boy is in your biology class and you want your professor to really think you’ve got some pizzazz and are taking this class seriously (maybe she’ll bump your grade if you look professional enough!) So here’s the problem: It’s 30 degrees outside with a 10 mph windchill. All you want to do is wear your bed to class and give up on any boys or good grades. Sleep and warmth are worth the cons, right? Well now you no longer have to worry! It’s time to learn how to warm up in style!

1. Layers

I don’t mean just a tank top or a jacket on top of your shirt, I mean real layers. A great way to do this is to a get some long johns. Yep, you heard me: Long johns. They’re thin enough to slide right under a really cute outfit and the thermal ones really keep in the heat well. Put some jeans/leggings/cute shirts on top of long johns and you’re set to go! Everyone will be wondering how in the world you look adorable and aren’t frozen in place.

2. Hats

We’re in college! No longer are we bound by the rules of high school. We can wear hats, hoods, earmuffs, ski masks, anything to class. You can keep your body warm with some fleece leggings or a puffy coat, but how do you keep your face and ears warm? With a low degree windchill, it’s very important to keep in mind your most important body part: your face! Avoid chapped lips with a scarf you can bring up to your face while walking outside. Wear a hat to pull down over your ears and to avoid wind blowing right through you. Or for a double bonus: a hat and a hood. Get double the warmth without falling over from too many layers. Plus, hats are totally in now. Anyone can pull off a beanie.

3. Fuzzy clothes

I know this is pretty obvious, but never underestimate what a fleece-lined legging will do or fuzzy socks or even fuzzy earmuffs! They could change your point of view on the cold weather from “Why me??” to “Wow, me!” Especially if you double up fuzzy socks, fleece leggings, and some cute boots. You’re ready to go and cute! Of course, play around with new ideas of staying warm! Never back out of gloves just because they aren’t always ideal for style: there are some great looking gloves out there. Don’t be afraid of messing up your hair with hats! To avoid frizz, just bring a dryer sheet with you to class to swiftly brush down your hair. Don’t hesitate to be bold and confident while braving these cold temperatures. The weather shouldn’t take away your want to be stylish. Be brave!
