After 25 years of use, the Georgia Dome has been imploded.
Due to the construction of the Mercedes Benz stadium right next door, the Georgia Dome no longer had a use. Though it had been dormant for a while, its demolition finally occurred at 7:30 AM on November 20, 2017. Cleanup of the wreckage is expected to take three months, as portions of the Dome’s structure are still standing.
Though the Dome is gone, the city of Atlanta still has plans to put a hotel and parking spaces in its place. We can assume that this will be used for sports fans traveling to attend Atlanta Falcons football games or Atlanta United soccer games.
The Georgia Dome may no longer be standing, but we will always have our fond memories of the multiple concerts and sporting events that we attended during those 25 years.
