Coping With the Mid-Semester Slump

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

Welcome back from spring break, Bobcats! After spending a week off from classes in the sun, we know it’s difficult coming back to Milledgeville and going to class. The end of the semester is so close that we can almost taste it, and yet we still have so much work to get done before we can even see the finish line. Getting burnt out from school is so easy at this point in the year—but have no fear! We at HerCampus GCSU have come up with five fun ways to cope with the infamous mid-semester slump.

While it’s important to remain focused in order to end the semester on a good foot, taking breaks are a necessary part of making sure you stay mentally healthy. If you feel guilty for taking study breaks, remember that this is a great time for you plan out the rest of your semester or to reevaluate your goals. Make the use of your time, and be sure to change or adjust any habits that aren’t working effectively.

1. Go for a walk at the Greenway or Bartram Forest.

Both have walking trails, which are an easy way to get fresh air and relax. Walking can help get your mind off class—definitely something that is necessary every so often!

2. Treat yourself at Sweet Treats.

This little gem just opened recently downtown next to Blackbird. The word around campus is that their ice cream is perfect for sunny days.

3. Study while you tan.

If you live in an apartment complex that has a pool, definitely make use of it as the weather warms up! If you don’t, use your friends’ pools or the pool at The Village. Bring notecards or any study materials to the pool so you can simultaneously tan and learn.

4. Pamper yourself with a manicure.

Okay, so it doesn’t have to be a manicure, but you should still take the time to make sure that you look and feel great about yourself! Do something that helps maintain a positive attitude whether it’s allowing yourself to read for fun, doing your nails, or going to the gym.
