A Big Skincare No-No That Most People Do…Washing Your Face in the Morning.
You may already know this or you may not, but washing your face in the morning can be very harmful to your skin. While you sleep, “your skin regenerates, reestablishes its pH, and increases collagen production” (Dr. Lamba, shape.com). You wake up with natural and essential oils on your face that are beneficial to your skin and washing your face in the morning will strip your skin of these essential oils and leave it dryer than the Sahara. The best thing to do in the morning according to famous YouTube beauty vlogger Michelle Phan, is to skip the wash and to use a face cloth and apply a light moisturizer (huffingtonpost.com). It is especially important to skip the wash in the morning in the colder months, because your skin needs as much moisture as it can get!
However, it’s another story if you have super oily skin all the time and/or are acne-prone. If this is the case, then splashing your face with water in the morning and then applying a light moisturizer with spf (always use spf every single day–even when the sun “isn’t out”) will be perfectly fine and if you’re extremely acne-prone or have a bit of makeup on from the night before (shame on you, always take all your makeup off!) use a very gentle cleanser in the morning that doesn’t have “harsh detergents” (Dr. Krant, shape.com). If you follow these steps in the morning and wash your face at night and always moisturize, you will have even more gorgeous, glowing skin than you already have.
