The Review You Didn’t Need: The New AirPods Pro

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Furman chapter.

Alright… Yes, they do look like ALL of the Pokémon characters and hair dryers. The memes are spot on with Apple’s newly released AirPods Pro. But, honestly, no meme is convincing anyone that these aren’t the best new headphones on the market.

Sure, these new AirPods Pro cost a whopping $249, whereas the first set of AirPods costs $159. But let’s just ignore the price for a minute and talk about what sets apart the AirPods from the AirPods Pro. New features of the AirPods Pro include noise cancellation, customizable ear pieces, and waterproof material.

Now, these features may not seem to be super monumental, but the difference is immediately evident. After getting mine in the mail, I put them on and noticed that they immediately cut out all sounds. I could barely hear myself snapping my fingers next to my ears, or my feet hitting the ground as I walked to class.

The adjustable ear pieces are also a nice touch because, as someone who has small ears, the regular AirPods start to hurt after wearing them for a while. With these, I chose the smallest option out of the three sent to me and notice that I can wear them for longer.

Overall, the major difference between the two AirPods models is the quality of sound. Though, I do wish the AirPods Pro were slightly louder, they do a good enough job of making sure I don’t hear people grunting at the gym. Speaking of which, specifically at Furman’s gym, lots of AirPods are missing and have recently been stolen. When you order the AirPods Pro, there’s an option to engrave them with your name. So, that makes these much harder to steal on such a small campus.

While it’s quite difficult to stomach dropping $249 on a pair of headphones that don’t seem to be much of an improvement, I have been very happy with my purchase. The sound quality is a complete game-changer, and I would highly recommend these to anyone who is looking to potentially buy them.
