Minority Woman Owned Beauty Brands You Need to Know About

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Furman chapter.

When people buy makeup, they often do not think about the business behind the product. I’m here to shed a little light on a few brands owned by some badass minority women. These women have made a name for themselves in the beauty industry and are changing the game one product at a time.

Juvia’s Place is an incredible makeup brand owned by a black woman named Chichi Eburu. Juvia’s Place is most known for their eyeshadows that have out of this world pigment. She also features beautiful renditions of tribal women on the packaging. The price point is very affordable for how high quality these eyeshadow palettes are. Most of them range between $20-$25. Juvia’s Place also has highlighters, blushes, and lip products and is now carried at Ulta!

Huda Beauty is one of the fastest growing makeup brands in the world. Huda Kattan is a middle eastern woman who started her own beauty empire. Her first product was false lashes, and quickly after that came lip products, eyeshadow palettes, and complexion products. Huda Beauty can now be found all over Instagram and at almost every Sephora! The prices are medium range, but you’re paying for the luxuriousness of her products.

Beauty Bakerie is a makeup company where everything is themed around sweets! It is owned by Cashmere Nicole, a black woman and breast cancer survivor. The adorable concept and packaging of the products is what initially got people’s attention. When people realized the products were just as amazing as the packaging, Beauty Bakerie began to blow up. It is now carried at Ulta stores!

Fenty Beauty hands down changed the makeup game. Technically, this company is owned by Kendo in partnership with Rihanna, but we have to give RiRi credit for turning the makeup world upside down and changing the definition of an inclusive color range. We stan a queen. Fenty Beauty carries bomb products that cater to every complexion and undertone, ranging from liquid lipstick to body glitter.

Coloured Raine is a beauty brand that revolves around beauty without stipulation. The owner is Lorraine R. Dowdy, a black woman who wanted her brand to be inclusive to all. The product that put Coloured Raine on the map is the Queen of Hearts eyeshadow palette. It’s incredible pigment and rich color scheme made people fall in love with the brand. Coloured Raine carries lip, eye, and face products in an array of colors!

All of these women hustled to make it where they are today and are changing the beauty game! I would highly recommend any of these brands because of the amazing products and the amazing women behind them.
