Color Me Purple: 5 Simple Ways To Tailgate in Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Furman chapter.

It’s game day season, baby! Fall is upon us and while we’re all very excited for PSL’s, the changing leaves, and cozy sweater weather, our number one priority at the moment is tailgating!

Even if you’re not down to watch the actual sporting event, make a fabulous appearance at the tailgate. Tailgates are your time to shine, honey! While we want to cheer our Dins on, rocking that purple can be kind of intimidating at times. Here are five quick and easy ways to rock some purple in your tailgate outfit. Get your credit cards ready, here are the top five best ways to rock a pop of purple at tailgates!

  1. Purple Lip

Hello! Whoever told you that you couldn’t rock a purple lip? No one. Ever. Purple lips are the quintessential fall statement and it also matches our school colors! It’s a win-win situation! Some of my absolute favorite and most comfortable purple lips are: Divine Wine (Maybelline), Bauhau5 (Kat Von D), Aria (Stila). Make sure to wear a good lip liner underneath so your lips don’t smudge as your snacking and drinking throughout the day.

  1. Purple Nail Polish

Can you honestly think of anything more fall? Purple nail polish is my go-to way to show some love for our Dins. Some of my favorite purple nail colors are: Nice is nice (Essie), Play date (Essie), and Don’t toot my flute (OPI). Rocking purple nails is perfect for someone that isn’t too comfy with stepping out of their comfort zone with a purple article of clothing. This is a simple way to ease into incorporating more color into your outfit.

  1. Purple Scarves

Tailgates are the perfect excuse to break out those cute funky scarves that you stored away during the summer! With fall coming up and the weather cooling down, scarves are a great way to make a statement. Pair your purple scarf with a more neutral outfit including a pair of ripped jeans, a cream long sleeve top, and your favorite purple scarf thrown over the top!

  1. Rock That Purple Smokey Eye!

Purple eyeshadow is so in right now! Whether you’re going for that editorial glossy lid look, or a more wearable smoked out lower lash line, purple eyeshadow is so wearable! Don’t be scared because it’s a darker color, just make sure to work with little amounts at a time and gradually build up the color. If you’re feeling extra spirited that day, go for a purple glitter moment and steal the show!

  1. Purple Sunnies

I know we’ve all been dying to get on that Instagram tiny sunglass gang, but if you’re anything like me, you might be a little hesitant to get a pair of those sunnies. Don’t hold yourself back! Treat yourself and rock those sunnies, they are more wearable and flattering than you think. Channel your inner Kendall Jenner and slay the tailgate ladies!

Never forget the most important fashion: always opt for something you feel good and comfortable in. Even if an outfit is super cute, it’s not worth wearing if you don’t feel your 100% best in. Comfort and confidence over everything.
