You Have Cat to Be Kitten Me Right Meow

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Attention all cat lovers! If you love the warm companionship of cats, but can’t afford to take care of one yourself, Fat Cat Café is the ‘purr-fect’ place for you. Located on Park Ave, near Governor’s Square Mall, Fat Cat Café provides a perfect study spot or a fun activity for you and your friends.

The minute I walked into the café, I was instantly greeted by a friendly staff ready to help. The café offers multiple options in beverages such as bottled sodas, hot chocolate or coffee. After selecting your drinks and paying the general admission fee of $7, the true fun begins. A door leads you directly into cat paradise, where six or seven cats all greet you at once. While the café strictly enforces that you allow the cats to come to you, this wasn’t a problem. All the cats in the room were insanely friendly and waiting for affection. While some were ready for love and a stroke of the fur, others waited for someone to play. Luckily, plenty of toys and scratch posts are scattered around the room for the cats.

With midterms right around the corner, self-care must be emphasized to an extreme. Take the time to cuddle with furry friends and enjoy the afternoon. The best part about it? If you fall in love with a feline, you can take it home! All of the cats in the cuddle room are up for adoption and looking for a caring family. The Café works with Black Cats & Old Dogs to make sure the right steps are taken for the care of these fantastic cats.

Since opening in August, this café continues to add more events for customers. On Valentine’s Day, they held Meowentine’s Day, where a series of different packages were offered for couples, friends, or family members to come join the cats for a loving activity. For children, an hour of rock painting and coloring with kitties is offered. On select Saturdays, Fat Cat Café stays open after hours to screen a movie and provides popcorn! These can be found on their Facebook page, here.

After speaking to the staff, the café has more events in the works. They plan to offer art with kitties, a night for customers to paint while cats roam around. This will be a fun turn on Painting with a Twist. Unfortunately, with no exact date in mind, they are also working on yoga with kitties. Time to test if you or the felines are more flexible.
