Why We Should All Strive To Be Leslie Knope

If you watch the show Parks and Recreation, you most likely adore Leslie Knope and everything she says and does. As the Deputy Director of the Pawnee City Department of Parks and Recreation, Leslie Knope is an extremely ambitious woman who encourages positivity and success throughout the department. From her passionate outlook, to her fun loving spirit, Leslie Knope is most definitely someone we should all idolize. Here are some reasons why Knope is an inspiration to all:

1) She never stops working hard to achieve her goals

Despite the hurdles that the department faces from other branches of the government, Leslie does not stop working towards making her community the best it can be. Whether it is by constantly trying to get the notorious pit filled, or not letting her fellow Parks & Rec employees get laid off, Leslie will stop at nothing to make sure that the Parks & Rec department can be the very best that she believes it can be. Even if she is not always successful in her actions, we can all admire her hard work and good intentions.  Her persistence in getting the job done (or at least trying to) is truly inspiring (and may inspire you to finally get started on that paper you’ve been putting off for weeks).

2) Her views of gender equality and feminism are on point

Besides being a powerful leading role of the show, Leslie also depicts some awesome feminist views in almost every episode of Parks & Rec. Her empowering views on feminism partially stem from the fact that political powerhouse Hillary Clinton is her idol in every way possible. Throughout the show, Leslie is socially aware, and makes sure to not directly follow gender roles and norms. (For example, going on the camping trip with all of the boys, or becoming a part of the “boys club” where they all sit and drink beer).  She also encourages other women to stand up and be the powerful figure that she believes they can be. Remember when Leslie was a judge for the Miss Pawnee Beauty Pageant? She made sure to critique the women beyond their looks by valuing their intelligence, passion, and character. With all of this in mind, it is clear to see that Leslie Knope nails it when it comes to feminism.

3) She’s always there for her girlfriends

Leslie’s famous Galentine’s Day is a prime example of how she is an amazing friend. From showing up at Ann’s house in seconds if anything goes awry, to giving April the motivation and confidence she needs, Leslie will go above and beyond for her girls. She promotes the idea of supporting and encouraging her girlfriends rather than promoting competition between them. Whether it’s a break up or an obscure issue in the department, Knope is always there for her gals in times of trouble. Leslie is the best friend we all want in our lives, which is why we should try our best to be at least half as supportive as she is.
