Why Tallahassee’s “The Big Event” Needs You Now More Than Ever

So, you may or may not have heard about “The Big Event” in Tallahassee. But what exactly is it and why is it important now more than ever before to get involved?

Tallahassee’s “The Big Event” is an annual service project in which students attending Florida State University, Florida A & M University and Tallahassee Community College come together as one to give back to the community. The website for Tallahassee’s “The Big Event” describes the service project as a day comprised of a variety of “service-oriented activities” scattered throughout the city of Tallahassee. Students are able to give back and become more involved in their community.

Giving back to the community through service work not only provides you with extremely fulfilling experiences but also makes huge impacts on the community you are serving. Speaking from personal experience, the positive impact you make on communities will stay with you for the rest of your life and will open your eyes to more perspectives than just your own. Seeing someone smile because of how grateful they are for you simply being there to lend a helping hand is a truly life-changing experience. Serving our community is an incredible opportunity that will stay with you for the rest of your life! Fortunately, “The Big Event Tallahassee” provides us with the amazing chance to help out during a time of so much hardship.

As we all know by now, the coronavirus pandemic has impacted every community worldwide, Tallahassee being no different. The pandemic has sparked countless negative effects on every single individual around us, whether financial or mental, and that is exactly why it is so important to give back to our community this year. There is a need for compassion and support in our country now more than ever before. People all throughout the community are struggling to get through these hard times, and kindness goes a long way when the world is in so much upheaval. Even a simple kind gesture can make someone’s day so much better.

Now, you might ask yourself, “Is it safe to volunteer during a pandemic?” Don’t worry, the coordinators of “The Big Event” have made sure that there are both in-person and virtual service opportunities so that everyone who is interested has the opportunity to get involved. There are even over 100 service sites to get involved with, which means there is bound to be an opportunity that interests you!
