It feels like we all just finished watching Tayshia find love on The Bachelorette a few weeks ago and yet, it’s almost that time of the year again for bachelor nation to find a new female lead. With Matt James’ season of The Bachelor still airing, most of us are already choosing our favorites and making predictions on who will land the coveted role. Rumors have been circulating that this season’s Katie Thurston is in the running for the next Bachelorette and I, for one, am hoping they are true. I want to share why I think Katie is the most logical choice and should be the next Bachelorette.

For starters, Katie is the sex-positive queen bachelor nation didn’t know we needed. It was apparent from night one that Katie is open about and proud of her sexuality, something we saw in her memorable limo entrance where she introduced Matt James to MJ—her vibrator, not her fellow contestant. Some viewers and contestants on the show questioned if Katie’s attitude about sex was all an act, however, she seems to keep the same energy in her real life and even donned a shirt that said “No Fake Orgasms” on her Instagram. In more ways than one, Katie keeps it real and that is so refreshing on a show where women have been shamed for their sexuality in the past (I’m looking at you, Luke P.).

Another reason Katie should become the next Bachelorette is that she’s outspoken against bullying. Every season has some kind of drama and let’s be honest, that’s why most people watch the show. However, bullying and even racism directed towards contestants online has become more prevalent. When some of the girls in the house on this season of The Bachelor started bullying one another, Katie took a firm stance against it. Katie showed real maturity by standing up for other people in the house and raising awareness on the issue even though the drama did not necessarily involve her. Being able to shut down that kind of toxic behavior is exactly what a lead in this franchise needs to do unfortunately and I think Katie could handle that responsibility much like my personal favorite Bachelorette, Hannah Brown.

The last and most obvious reason why Katie should land the role of the next Bachelorette is that there’s no other good options—kind of. Most of the women from Peter Weber’s time as the Bachelor are all either in relationships or probably still busy arguing over who stole that bottle of champagne. Mike Fleiss, the creator of The Bachelor franchise, has been teasing on Twitter that the announcement of the next female lead will come very soon, possibly even this week. Filming of The Bachelorette begins next month and announcing a lead from Matt James’ season who is still on the show as of right now would essentially spoil parts of his season. Fortunately for us, however, Katie is both single and her exit from the show has already aired.

Personally, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the rumors are true, and it is Katie. If not, I hope to see Katie on Bachelor in Paradise so she can get the Dylan Barbour and Hannah Godwin romance she deserves.
