Located just beneath the Luxe Apartments on W Call St., Royal Thai and Sushi has recently opened their doors as the second restaurant owned by Tally Thai. For those who have never been, Tally Thai is a hit here in Tallahassee. They only opened a few years ago, but Tally Thai has managed to brand themselves as a fantastic sushi and Thai restaurant in Tallahassee—something that is quite difficult to do.
Due to their success with Tally Thai, it only made sense for them to open up Royal Thai and Sushi, especially at a location that is so “prime.” Tally Thai is located on Tennessee St., which is close to campus, of course, but not as immediate to campus as Royal Thai and Sushi is. Because it is located above an apartment complex (not to mention, across the street from several other apartment complexes as well), hundreds of kids constantly walk past it, attracting attention towards its way. In addition, there is a bus stop across the street, so students have easy access to transportation in order to get to the restaurant, regardless if they have a car or not.
Upon arriving, I noticed how quaint the restaurant is. As already mentioned, they are in a more than prime location, so I can’t help but give them props for that. I felt welcomed immediately upon entering as I was greeted and helped instantly. It was a refreshing change from most other restaurants I am used to eating at. The restaurant itself is very modern, but in a good way. I loved the way they designed it. I also adored their music choices, constantly finding myself signing aloud. I thoroughly enjoyed reading through their menu, as they have uniquely cool names for their rolls: the Hangover, the Seminole, etc. Most were FSU-themed, and I liked that. It gave the restaurant a very “homey” feel.
While I was there, I ordered a wonton soup. I finished the soup within minutes because it was so good! We also ordered two rolls. The first roll to arrive was the Bermuda roll. The Bermuda was absolutely incredible—my friends and I finished it within seconds, and actually fought for who would get the last piece (I won).

The second roll brought to us was the “Trust Me” roll. I was confused by this term, but I was so intrigued by the idea once it was explained to me. Essentially, you order a Trust Me, and you trust the chef to make you a unique roll. It’s such an interesting concept because each time this is ordered, a different roll is made. Of course, if there is an item that you don’t like, you can make a request for the chef not use that ingredient. Otherwise, the choice is in the chef’s hands. And let me tell you… it was a great decision to order this roll. I enjoyed every last bite.

We also received a sticky rice and mango dessert roll. I think I collectively finished the entire dessert roll on my own. It was so good.

But these delicious rolls come at a price: the Bermuda runs at $14, while the “Trust Me” will cost you $18. I definitely recommend this restaurant for more of a “splurge night” for all you broke college students. Regardless, I still would absolutely recommend this restaurant for anyone who loves delicious food, a great atmosphere and friendly people. What else could you ask for?
