Victoria Weler: Small but Mighty with Big Dreams

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Name: Victoria Weler

Year: Sophomore

Major: Media/Communication Studies

Minor: English – EWM

Hometown: Miami, Fl.

Relationship Status: Happily taken

Her Campus (HC): Why did you attend FSU?

Victoria Weler (VW): FSU has always been my dream school. There was something comforting about the brick walls and the trees resembled those of a fairy tale. The energy and the environment just felt right. It always seemed like such a far-fetched idea, I never thought I’d be living my dream.

HC: How did you know that your major was something you wanted to pursue in your life?

VW: Ever since I was in fifth grade, I knew I wanted to be a journalist. I was always way too curious for my own good and I enjoyed writing essays a little too much. Through Media/Communication Studies, I can incorporate all the things that I love. It allows me to expand my horizons and venture off into the broadcasting and producing world.

HC: What’s your dream career?

VW: I would love to write for The New York Times. I want to write stories that resonate with people all over the world. I want to take a walk in the wild and wonderful world of journalism, here, I will always be learning and trying new things.

HC: How do you expect to get there? Do you have your eye on a key internship that will help you get your foot in the door?

VW: This summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to intern for Bendixen and Amandi International. B&A is an international research, media and communication strategy firm; they do just about everything! This experience set the foundation for the rest of my professional career and it has given me the courage to explore other areas in my field. At the moment, I am applying for other internship opportunities for this upcoming summer.

HC: What clubs and/or organization are you a part of?

VW: As of right now, I am keeping myself busy by writing for Her Campus. I hope to soon join the Women Student Union.

HC: Three words to describe yourself?

VW: I like to think I am enthusiastic, adventurous and ambitious.

HC: What’s your favorite quote?

VW: “Be the person your dog thinks you are.” This quote is always on the back of my mind. It reminds me to always think before I speak and to be mindful of my surroundings. There would be nothing worse than disappointing my dog, one look says it all.

HC: Where do you want to live once you graduate? Do you think you’ll go back to Miami?

VW: I love Miami, but with my future career plans I do think it would be hard to live there. I hope to live in Washington D.C. or New York City. Ideally, I wouldn’t want to live anywhere that is more than 30 minutes away from the beach, but hey, we can’t have it all!

Tara Lawson-Corley is a Florida State University graduate. She majored in Retail Merchandising & Product Development with the goal of someday working for a fitness driven retail company. Hopefully later on she will be able to own her own successful fitness boutique or at least that's the dream. Tara enjoys the occasional Netflix binge, reading numerous fashion magazines, and finding new and exciting ways to workout.
