Upcoming Concert: Cloud Nothings

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

End your spring semester on a high note and take a break from studying for your finals to see the highly anticipated Cloud Nothings’ Tallahassee concert. Cloud Nothings are set to play a show at Club Downunder on Wednesday, April 23rd. The doors open at 8:30 p.m. and music starts at 9:30 p.m. This show is free for all FSU students with a valid FSU ID and general public tickets are only $12. The show will also feature Ryley Walker as the opener.

Cloud Nothings’ members include Dylan Baldi (vocals/guitar), TJ Duke (bass), and Jayson Gerycz (drums). The indie rock band hails from Cleveland, Ohio and started as Baldi’s solo project in his parents’ basement. Baldi would record all of the instruments and vocals himself, but when it came to performances, an entire band would be present. The band found a lot of fans through its Myspace page, which is where early Cloud Nothings songs were released. After experiencing some success with Cloud Nothings, Baldi dropped out of college to pursue a full-time career in music.

In 2010, Cloud Nothings signed to Carpark Records as a solo act. The follow-up to the band’s first album, “Turning On,” was self-titled and released through Carpark in early 2011. “Cloud Nothings” received positive feedback from critics, though so noted that it felt like it was missing something. The following year, the band (all the members) recorded and released the third album “Attack on Music.” This was the first time any of the members besides Baldi made an appearance on one of their albums. The rest of the band recording must have been the missing piece of the puzzle because this album received the best response from critics up to that point. “Attack on Music” earned them Pitchfork’s “Best New Music” stamp of approval.

On April 1st of this year, Cloud Nothings released their fourth album, “Here and Nowhere Else.” The band also released the first single of this album, “I’m Not Part of Me,” on the same day. Overall, the eight-song album has received favorable reviews from their fans and critics alike. The band is currently touring the United States and has a European tour scheduled to start a few days after wrapping up with their U.S. tour.
