True Life: I’m Addicted to Netflix

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

As Collegiettes, we work hard. We have a lot to do! We wake up early to go to classes, study, do our homework, attend meetings, participate on exec boards, have part time jobs – it’s a lot. At the end of the day, we just really need to sit back and relax with our most recent Netflix binge. Okay, maybe we watch a little too much, but it’s not hurting anybody, is it? Don’t worry you’re not alone!

Here are the 23 signs that you are, in fact, addicted to Netflix. How many are true for you?

1. Time is no longer measured in minutes but in half hour or hour episodes.

2. You’re always comparing your real friends to characters in the show and are so excited when there’s a match.

3. You start to think you’re also a doctor or lawyer or whatever occupation your show is based on.

4. When something goes wrong in the show your entire day is ruined, leaving you in a state of depression.

5. You are shocked when you find out someone doesn’t watch Netflix.

6. You show up to class a mess because you waited until the last possible second to leave your bed thinking your time was better spent fitting in another episode rather than looking cute.

7. You take your laptop into the bathroom and watch with subtitles while you’re in the shower.

8. You watch it on your phone.

9. When a potential bf or gf points out they love to just lay around and watch Netflix all day you immediately imagine the rest of your lives together.

10. It’s never just “one more” episode.

11. When your two favorite characters FINALLY get together.

12. You constantly bring up inside jokes from the show in normal conversation and when no one gets it you remember why you like your Netflix friends better.

13. …then someone does get it.

14. Even though all your friends and family share the same Netflix account, your show is still always the featured “Recently Watched.” You’ve probably never had to use that search bar a day in your life!

15. When you’re not feeling it with your bf or gf anymore but you seriously consider staying with them since you use their Netflix account… atleast until you finish your most recent show.

16. When the low battery sign comes on it’s a mad dash to find the charger. Usually tripping over various objects and yelling “MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!!!” to your roommates is involved.

17. You don’t even want to talk about when the pinwheel comes up on the screen. Why is it always at the best part?!

18. You know the theme song of your recent show and are always singing it.

19. Now that’s its spring, you know you should be out in the sun, but then you remember no one will see your tan anyway.

20. When you’re sleep deprived because you now stay up way too late in order to finish a season.

21. There’s nothing worse than when Netflix doesn’t have the most recent seasons of your newest binge.

22. But when that next season is released everything is as it should be.

23. You are completely aware of all these things and the fact that they are probably not normal yet you don’t even care.

Although people may look down on us for spending far too much time indoors staring at a television screen, there are great life lessons and jokes to be learned from our favorite shows. So be free, Netflix lovers!
