Top 5 Trends from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Even though Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has come to an end, it’s left us plenty of trends to look forward to for the upcoming fall semester. From pretty pastels to notorious knits, New York Fashion Week was sure to set the bar for fall fashion (and a very high one at that). Fall may still be months away, but it’s never too early to go shopping, right? Here are the Top 5 trends spotted at New York Fashion Week that everyone is gushing about:

Victoria Beckham Fall 2014

It’s a Plaid World – Thakoon, Victoria Beckham, and Kenneth Cole all had collections featuring this classic pattern. The best part? Plaid comes in a variety of colors, making it easy to style and wear as you please. Style Tip: Pair your plaid with jeans for a stylish, casual ensemble, or with a skater skirt for a look that’s worthy of a night out on the town.

Proenza Schouler Fall 2014

Eye-popping Emerald – Emerald-colored pieces were all over the runway at New York Fashion Week. Not only is the color perfect for fall (not too light, not too dark), but it can also be worn with almost anything, including prints. Proenza Schouler opted to mix an emerald coat with a pair of printed pants in its fall 2014 collection. A match made in heaven, don’t you think?

BCBG Max Azria Fall 2014

Shear, There, and EverywhereShearling, or shear, is a type of sheepskin that has gone through a limited shearing process to obtain a uniform depth of the wool fibers for a uniform look and feel. Remember those ridiculously comfy Ugg boots you had in middle school? Imagine wearing the same material on your back. BCBG Max Azria, Coach, and Alexander Wang were not afraid to incorporate the über chic material into their fall 2014 designs. Marc Jacobs even displayed a shear coat that was dyed purple in his latest collection. Style Tip: Purchase a sheepskin topper to add on top of your coat. You’ll still look stylish without going broke.

Tory Burch Fall 2014

A Wit for Knit – Knit was another material seen all over the runway at New York Fashion Week, and it’s not hard to understand why: the comfortable material is lightweight and looks great on every body type. Knit dresses were a huge staple at New York Fashion Week, so keep your eyes peeled for the perfect knit dress the next time you’re shopping at Nordstrom.

Ralph Lauren Fall 2014

For the Love of Fur – Fur oh fur. What would we ever do without you? This everlasting trend will never go out of style. A favorite of Ralph Lauren, luxe fur has been a staple with designers for decades. Even if you’re against wearing fur, you can select faux-fur pieces that will still have you looking like a true fashionista.
