Syllabus Week as Told by the Cast of “Friends”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

As a summer of babysitting gigs, internships, and collecting stamps in passports came to a close, college students were eagerly anticipating perhaps the most universally celebrated holiday out there: syllabus week. This week provides students with a rollercoaster of experiences and emotions unlike any other, from getting lost on campus even as a junior or senior, to having quarter-life crises by Wednesday. Anyone who attends a university, especially Florida State, is well aware that a lot goes down during this series of days, and perhaps nobody embodies those feelings more so than the cast of “Friends.”

Prioritizing what to pack for college

Moving back to school is all fun and games until you’re lugging furniture up 3 flights of stairs

When you find friends in your classes

When the professor gives a test on the first day

When the professor says that attendance is mandatory

When there is no midterm or final exam

When there is no required textbook…

But you have to purchase a $100 access code

When you remember that you have an 8 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Looking through all of your syllabi like

But we all know that this week is all about going out with your friends

Doing stupid things socially unacceptable anywhere else

Piling into crazy Uber rides

Witnessing all of the freshmen at their first frat parties

Getting back into the flirting game

And seeing that guy that you ghosted over the summer

Being back at school means regressing back to your unhealthy dietary routine

Not one conversation will go by without slight mention of the approaching football

And keeping up with everyone’s excessively dedicated tailgating habits

You remember how expensive college is

At the end of it all, you most likely will have fallen victim to the syllabus week plague

But it feels damn great to be back
