Her Campus (HC): What attracted you to FSU?

Summer Bias (SB): A lot of my friends came here. It was a pretty simple decision. I applied to UCF, UF and FSU. I got into all three but decided to come to FSU.

HC: A double major and a minor based in history seems pretty intense. How’ve you been holding up?

SB: Those are the only things I think are really interesting, so it’s been alright. I started with art history and from there I just figured I would also enjoy history. History is just like one big story.

HC: What made you want to study art history?

SB: Junior year of high school we had an assignment in art class where we had to draw a gallery and put famous works of art in it. So in order to do that we had to go through art history books and that was the first time I’d ever gone through one. It was honestly just the best thing ever. So I didn’t actually work on my art assignment for a few days. I just paged through the book. Then I took AP art history the next year.

HC: Are there any artists you’re particularly fond of? Like are there any painters, musicians or dancers (etc.) that you’re really digging?

SB: My favorite visual artist is Joseph Hornel, number two is Francisco Goya and Gustav Klimt after that.

HC: What country would you love to visit the most?

SB: I think anywhere that I’ve studied a lot. My favorite type of art is Spanish colonial. So probably somewhere in Latin America where there’s colonial mission churches. That’s the type of art I’d know the most about, so visiting a place with a lot of Spanish colonial art would be amazing.

HC: What museum is at the top of your ‘Must Visit’ list?

SB: The Louvre probably. I feel like as an art historian, you just have to go there. Even though most people have a bad experience. Mostly because it’s overwhelmingly big and there are so many tourists around.

HC: If you had to choose any other field of study, what would it be?

SB: I would choose physics. It’s so fascinating to me but I don’t think I’m mathematically savvy enough to study it. My dad bought me a quantum physics book that’s really well written and pretty easy to understand. So whenever I read it my mind is just blown.

HC: What’s one of your favorite spots in Tallahassee?

SB: I like Mission San Luis a lot, the Living History Museum and Village are pretty cool, even if the performances can get a bit cheesy. Food wise, I really love Bada Bean for coffee and lunch.

HC: What’s your guilty pleasure?

SB: Definitely Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Orange County.

HC: Totally with you on that one. Who’s your favorite housewife?

SB: In Beverly Hills my favorite is Lisa. She and her husband are so adorable. Their dog Giggy is too precious. In Orange County, I guess Heather but I honestly don’t like her that much.

HC: Where do you see yourself after undergraduate life at FSU?

SB: In graduate school. Not sure where. But definitely continuing with art history.

HC: If you could give any advice to your teenage self, what would it be?

SB: Probably to be less shy. Because people aren’t that scary and they don’t care that much about what others are doing.
