Staying Motivated Through Spring Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

At one point or another, we all face periods of difficulty, frustration or simply lack of motivation. We are all at a point in our lives where we are trying to make something of ourselves, and that comes along with more than a few ups and downs. These trials lead us to further self-discovery, generate endurance and prepare us for what the future has to offer. Here are some of the fundamental lessons in learning how to stay motivated to help keep you going.

Learning Self-Discipline

Knowing how to take responsibility for yourself is a key aspect for anyone who has set a goal they are pursuing – whether that be through maintaining a routine, staying organized or being persistent. It’s important to be aware of yourself and know your limits.

All About Perspective

How you approach and handle various situations can change your outlook on life for the better. One important thing I’ve learned is that growth happens when you fail. It can be easy to perceive failure as incompetency, but that misconception will only discourage you from pushing forward. Instead, you can choose to see those difficult times as part of your development into a better version of yourself.

Will Smith puts this idea into inspiring words that everyone should hear:

A Support System

Part of staying motivated includes surrounding yourself with people who inspire you to do better. Keeping your circle full of people who positively influence your life means you can lean on one another when you need to – something everyone needs once in a while. These individuals should help you see your full potential and encourage you to stay on track. These are the people who will support you through thick and thin, the ones you can turn to in moments of doubt.

Priorities

While it’s obvious that you should work hard, many people forget that it is just as important to take time for yourself. This goes hand-in-hand with knowing how to prioritize your activities and manage your time. You don’t want to overwork yourself and become stressed to the point that you feel horrible mentally and physically. It’s good to set aside some time to relax. Watch Netflix, hang out with friends, read a book, do a face mask – whatever makes you feel at peace again.

The Big Picture

In the midst of everything you have going on, it helps to remind yourself of the big picture – why you started in the first place. We can become overwhelmed and stress over the little things, but picturing yourself at the finish line can give you that extra push you needed.

It’s About YOU

In this day and age, social media has a tremendous influence on our lives. It’s easy to see what other people are doing and feel like comparing yourself to them, but doing so will only hinder your progression. Everyone’s journey to success is different, so the only person you should be comparing yourself to is the version of you from yesterday. Learn how to challenge yourself so that every day you are doing better than you were before.

Staying motivated isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it. Take it one day at a time and make yourself proud.
