Spring Sushi: Tally’s First All You Can Eat Sushi

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

I guess you can call me the Tallahassee connoisseur at this point. Recently, I visited Spring Sushi—a very new sushi restaurant with a very appealing factor. All you can eat (AYCE) sushi. Yes, you did read that correctly. Spring Sushi offers AYCE sushi and other Japanese cuisines for a single price. The sushi gods must have heard us asking for this because Spring Sushi is quite literally a dream come true. For me, at least.

At only $12.99 for lunch and $19.99 for dinner, us college students can enjoy AYCE on over 160 items! Now, I know what you are thinking: there is no way the food is enjoyable. Oh, how wrong you are for thinking that. Not only does Spring Sushi offer unique items, such as sushi pizza and sushi hand rolls, but these items are also all made-to-order. In other words, each item ordered is made fresh. On top of all this, they include both appetizers and desserts in the AYCE. Amazing, right?

Spring Sushi is nuzzled on John Knox Road—a pretty short drive for so much delicious food. Upon entering, you will immediately be greeted by the friendly staff and will be given an explanation as to how the “AYCE” works: it is a very simple concept, making this restaurant even more appealing. Basically, you are given a menu along with a sheet of paper with each item written on it. You then select which items you want and how much of each item. The best part? You can do this in sections. In other words, you can fill out multiple sheets at different times, so you can easily pace yourself. And trust me, you are going to need to.

Whilst enjoying the interior design and pop music playing, I ordered half of the menu—literally. Absolutely everything I ordered was incredible. I could easily tell how fresh it was. I ordered things from each section and it would be impossible to tell you what was the best tasting. I must admit, however, the most unique was the sushi pizzas that they offer. I have yet to see anything like it. I ordered the eel pizza and was amazed when it arrived. The rice was deep-fried, something I hadn’t really seen before. I mean everything tastes better fried and this was no exception. Oh, and they offer a select amount of sushi rolls deep-fried. Can you say incredible? I sure did when I ate these rolls. Don’t be shy to ask the staff what their recommendations are—I did and enjoyed every item suggested to me.

Their portion size is definitely a plus, as well. With smaller portions than normal, you are able to order more without getting full so quickly. When sharing with friends, it is easy to share plates as you can tailor most plates to how much you want. So, Spring Sushi is basically all you can eat, how/what you want to eat.

The only downfall of this “AYCE” idea is that Spring Sushi only allows you limited take-away. In other words, they will let you take a few pieces of a roll home, but not an entire roll. Whilst they encourage you to experiment, there is a hefty fee for not finishing items you order. Rightfully so, in my opinion. Spring Sushi just doesn’t want you to waste food! So come one, come all, but make sure to come with an appetite—this place definitely delivers a large bang for its buck. Oh, and don’t worry: Spring Sushi has private rooms for any party or business needs. For more information on this and a full menu, give them a call at (850) 692-3405 or visit their website.
