Halloween is right around the corner and #HalloWEEK has already started. In honor of the spookiest week of all, I’ve comprised a list of classic horror movies as represented by each zodiac sign. Have a scary movie marathon with your gals or watch the movie aligned with your sign and see if you can spot hints of yourself within.
Aries – Halloween
Kicking off the zodiac is Aries. Aries is a Cardinal fire sign, ruled by Mars. Cardinal signs correspond with the beginning of seasons, and as such are considered action signs. The combination of being a Cardinal fire sign gives Aries a unique fierceness that is depicted in every aspect of their life. That’s why Aries is Halloween. Aries mirrors Laurie Strode and her incredibly fierce will to keep fighting against Michael Myers, even when he comes back years later in the 2018 remake. Aries are overcomers; the sign we should all look to when we need inspiration to draw will in the darkest times.
Taurus – The Exorcist
Taurus is a Fixed earth sign, ruled by Venus. If there’s one Taurus stereotype that’s resoundingly true, it’s that they are some stubborn people. The combination of Fixed and earth is steadfast in what they elect to do, or not do. The stubbornness in Taurus greatly mirrors the stubbornness in the demon possessing Regan in The Exorcist. This stubbornness, or strength of will, leads a very important figure to lose or question their faith. Moreover, every evil act portrayed in this movie takes place from someone laying down, which also corresponds to Taurus’ ruler Venus, which guides their pleasure-seeking qualities.
Gemini – Suspira
Gemini is a Mutable air sign, ruled by Mercury. There are many stereotypes and astrology pages that are quick to refer to Gemini as duplicitous, which is true to a degree, but they never highlight how creative Gemini is. Gemini’s have a strength in creating, and this is especially true if they feel confident or sufficiently fostered where they are. The exact opposite is the case in Suspira, a movie depicting how a young ballerina, Suzy, is driven to the edge by very unsupportive dance-mates and professors. This movie is very Gemini-esque because it uses a duality that does exist to help Suzy power through the morbid events taking place at the academy.
Cancer – Scream
Cancer is a Cardinal water sign, ruled by the Moon. Water signs are seen as very emotional or immature, but what people fail to realize is that water signs have the power to be a source of life, like a river, or a source of immense and devastating power, like a tsunami. Such is the case with the movie Scream. Scream follows Sidney, a teenager who is coming up to the 1st anniversary of her mother’s death when a ghost-faced killer begins taunting her and her peers. Throughout the movie, we see Sidney transform from a shy and quiet gal to a powerhouse that … (no spoilers). This same remarkable strength is found in Cancer, a sign which is often overlooked as emotional, but is truly formidable.
Leo – Silence of the Lambs
Leo is a Fixed fire sign, ruled by the Sun. Leo is often considered to be very self-centered, but their selflessness and intelligence also deserves to be heralded. Leo can be seen in Clarice, a bright and passionate FBI student in Silence of the Lambs, who uses her skills and intelligence to face off against a terrifying individual. Clarice sacrifices everything to aid the FBI in cracking a case that has slipped through the fingers of many other agents, and this fiery passion is just another thing that we can all find in our local Leo.
Virgo – Psycho
Virgo is a Mutable earth sign, ruled by Mercury. Virgo’s are the planners of the zodiac, a meticulous people who love structure and order, even if it only makes sense to them at times. This is why Psycho is resoundingly Virgo. Psycho follows Norman Bates and his extremely well-planned out hotel where he lures and murders people. This level of determination is present in all the earth signs, but the determination in order is especially true for Virgo.
Libra – Friday the 13th
Libra is a Cardinal air sign, ruled by Venus. The combination of air and being a Venusian sign gives Libra a very unique, life of the party energy. They seek out positive things and an overall good time. This same quality is true for the group of counselors heading out for Crystal Lake in Friday the 13th, they sought out a fun summer for themselves and campers, only to be deterred by Jason. But fear not, Libra is Cardinal, a sign of action, and is more than capable of taking steps to save themselves while keeping that fun energy.
Scorpio – Carrie
As a member of the Scorpio delegation, I can safely say that Carrie is perhaps the most Scorpio movie ever made. Scorpio is a Fixed water sign, ruled by Mars and Pluto. Scorpio is heavily associated with rebirth and is considered the “phoenix” as they are born and reborn many times in their lives. Carrie is an interesting example of this because she spent her life being abused by her deranged mother and by bullies in school. In a flurry of fire, Carrie is reborn into a very powerful and formidable girl, mirroring the Scorpionic quality of rebirth.
Sagittarius – Blair Witch Project
Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign, ruled by Jupiter. Sagittarians are people of action and adventure. If you could get one to sit through a movie, they would see themselves in the characters of Blair Witch Project. Sagittarius is fun and spontaneous, and not the type to turn down an adventure. The characters in Blair Witch Project wanted an adventure-turned mystery, and they sure got one. Sagittarians are very bright and positive people and I don’t think they’d go hunting for a witch, but their adventurous and thrill-seeking qualities are well personified in this movie.
Capricorn – American Psycho
Capricorn is a Cardinal earth sign, ruled by Saturn. Capricorns are known for being strictly business and carrying a lofty sense of ambition. Their innate earth stubbornness leads them to a never-ending pursuit of success and can be seen as Patrick in American Psycho. Capricorn is a high-achieving sign that mirrors that same ambition and drive that Patrick exhibits throughout the movie.
Aquarius – Alien
Aquarius is a Fixed water sign, ruled by Uranus. Aquarius is well-known for being an eccentric folk and they’re deeply connected to the ether, and Alien is a movie that shows that connection in a wonderful depiction. Alien is about exactly that quality, aliens and someone who is fearless enough to take them on. The eccentricity found in Aquarius mirrors this movie, as they would probably be the people to save humanity from a predatory alien species.
Pisces – Nightmare on Elm Street
Pisces is a Mutable water sign, ruled by Jupiter. Pisces is often depicted as a dreamy, ethereal water sign, but like it’s counterparts in Cancer and Scorpio, they have the potential to be deadly. Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Kruger existing in dreams and wreaking his havoc in a dreamscape is very Piscean in nature.
