Rachel and The City: Find Your Solemate In SJP’s New Shoe Collection

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

It’s as if all of our Sex and the City prayers have been answered—Sarah Jessica Parker has slowly morphed into her famed alter ego, our very own real-life Carrie Bradshaw. With her undeniable love for shoes and accessories, Parker launched her very own shoe line on February 28, the SJP Collection. With the online launch, the creation of her short-term Pop-Up Shop located in the heart of SoHo, and her meet-and-greet events throughout the country, SJP has been a very busy lady. She spent February 28 to March 2 literally in the Pop-Up Shop to see fan/customer reactions of the collection and to help them find the perfect shoe for their taste. Can SJP be any more perfect?

The SJP Collection has a versatile shoe display, ranging from a classic heel to wedges to flats/sandals. Oh, and did I mention the collection includes coats and handbags as well? For those of you who have heard of the collection, but haven’t had a chance to lay your eyes on the shoes, I’ve compiled a brief run-through/review of some of the staple items of the collection. If you’re a collegiette like me, you just can’t seem to get enough of SJP.

The SJP ‘Billie’ Suede Flat, available in beige and cobalt, is perfect for a chilly fall day or a cooler, breezy day in the spring. It’s one of the cheaper shoes in the collection, priced at $195, and the best part of this not-so-flat flat is that it can be dressed up or dressed down, and who doesn’t love a shoe with a little personality?

The ‘Leslie’ Espadrille Sandal is to-die-for and one of my favorites of the SJP Collection. Available in mint, coral, and white, this classic wedge is perfect for a comfortable, sexy spring night-out or a casual stroll through the streets. ‘Leslie’ sells for $245.

Next up, the ‘Carrie’ T-Strap Pump. That’s right, I said Carrie. SJP named one of her staple shoes after her beloved SATC character. Available in multiple colors, the ‘Carrie’ shoe symbolizes Bradshaw’s savvy, hopeless romantic personality. The ‘Carrie’ is a favorite of SJP herself. All of this fabulousness of course comes with a price- $355.

The SJP ‘Etta’ Pump is a top-seller, and is available in colors such as pewter grey and pink mauve. This shoe leans toward the more elegant side (elegance reaching $425), but has a unique detailing that many of the other shoes in the line do not have. For work or for play, voilà, you’ve added to the perfect outfit.

The SJP ‘Maud’ Sandal, produced in metallic as well as a combination of mixed pinks, mints, and oranges, creates the perfect free-flowing heel just in time for spring. At first I was a bit hesitant towards the shoe, but SJP does some pretty good convincing. “It’s no secret this shoe is inspired by the great Maud Frizon. I imagine so many nights spent in this fun, flirty style; the colors demand to be seen and the shoe is longing for an adventure. I love the idea of using multiple colors, simple colors, to create a more unique neutral. It’s a shoe that can go with such a variety of colors and even patterns. And I’m so pleased with how soft the weave feels on the foot,” says Parker via Nordstrom. The ‘Maud’ Sandal is priced at $375.

No pump gets left behind. The SJP ‘Lady’ Pump, another one of my favorites, comes in the uber-spectacular shade of bright red. With a more classic fit, this shoe is perfect for women of all ages. Whether worn for a job interview or a night out at College Town, our eyes just can’t seem to shy away from them (only our wallets). ‘Lady’ is priced at $350.

In addition to the dynamic, diverse shoe styles, the SJP collection also includes trench coats referred to as ‘Manhattan’ as well as clutches. I encourage you collegiettes to check them out (they can only benefit your eyes)! As mentioned before, the SJP Collection is now available online and in select Nordstrom stores you can locate here. As you all have figured, my column theme is inspired by Sex and the City, so you can only imagine how excited I am to see this collection grow and SJP’s inner-Bradshaw live on. Sarah Jessica Parker really put her heart and sole into the collection, a key factor that designers often lack, adding a unique touch to the line. Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda would be so proud!
