The Proper Way to Celebrate Fall in Tallahassee

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

I get really excited for fall. I mean, REALLY EXCITED. The weather falls below the sweltering 85 degrees, which means I can straighten my hair and have it last for more than a few hours! (No promises though, because we all know how great Tallahassee weather is). Do you know what? I actually saw a LEAF fall from the tree outside my apartment this morning! An actual fall, brown, dead leaf! It was thrilling. The start of fall means I can also start wearing cute sweaters that I bought on 90% discount this summer. With all of the excitement that happens around this time of year, Tallahassee is the place to be. However, if you need a little help planning all of your fall festivities, don’t worry. I’ve got you covered.

Start out with the basics. Make some delicious homemade fall treats to share with your friends, classmates, co-workers, or to keep them all for yourself (don’t worry, I don’t judge). Pumpkin spice Truffles? Caramel apple cheesecakes? Pecan pie cookies? I’ll take one of each please. Just a simple search on Pinterest and you’re good to go. I swear that website was made for times like these.

If you’re looking for some old fashioned fun, take a trip down to Bradley’s Country Store located six miles past Bradfordville Road on Centerville Road. Famous for their country smoked sausage, Bradley’s is also well-known for providing those great old-timey feels. Every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, Bradley’s Country Store hosts a big Fall gathering called “Old Fashioned Fun Day.” The annual event has been a tradition since 1970, where guests can enjoy wagon rides, live music, syrup making and a variety of crafts and food items. If anything, go for the cute Instagram pic you can post of you and bae on the hayride.

On the way back from all the fun you’ve had at Bradley’s, make a pit stop by Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church (THUMC), aka “The Pumpkin Patch Church.” For 28 years now, THUMC has been selling pumpkins by the thousands every fall. Did I mention that all the proceeds from the pumpkin sales go to various missions around the world? After you snap some pics in your best fall outfit at the patch, buy one, take it home and decorate it! If you hollow it out, make sure to save the pumpkin seeds to roast for snacking!

To top the day off, get out to that great Tallahassee night-life we all know and love. Tallahassee hosts several great music venues, so it’s no surprise that the next thing on the list is going to one of the several concerts going on this Fall. If you missed Rascal Flatts at the Tallahassee Pavilion a few weeks ago, don’t worry! Some of the hottest stars in country music such as Tyler Farr, Old Dominion and Bobby Bones and the Raging Idiots are making their way to Tallahassee on November 12th for a massive concert at none other than Doak Campbell Stadium. It’s not every day that you get to see a concert in Doak, so make sure that this is an event you won’t miss! The event is called Doak After Dark, and you can find the event page on Facebook here.

Speaking of Doak, the last thing that you need on your Fall Tallahassee bucket list is FSU FOOTBALL! Go on and wear your best garnet and gold, and support those ‘Noles. Remember to stop by Downtown Getdown every Friday night before a home game for some good music and food to get you pumped for the games!

Excited for fall yet? Good. So are we.
