Andres Gancedo: Cruising Through Tally as a Curb Caddy Driver

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Curb Caddy is a hop-on, hop-off transportation service in Tallahassee, Florida. Andres Gancedo is part of the Curb Caddy team, and he shared information about the service and his experiences as a driver.

Her Campus (HC): Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and the Curb Caddy services?

Andres Gancedo (AG): My name is Andres Gancedo, and I am a junior at Florida State University (FSU). I am majoring in exercise physiology, and I hope to become a dentist in the future. I joined Curb Caddy services as a driver in the Spring 2022 semester. For me, this is a great way to earn money and I work multiple times a week.

Curb Caddy was created by FSU student, Matthias. He is a commercial entrepreneurship major and he designed this service for a class project. Eventually, Matthias’s initiative expanded in Tallahassee, and it became a business in 2021. Curb Caddy is a fast and easy transportation service in Tallahassee. Drivers use street golf carts that are equipped with lights and music. These services operate during game day, for a night out or after a long day of classes and provide passengers a lift in comfort.

As a Curb Caddy driver, I give passengers a lift to their next destination. In terms of pricing, Curb Caddy charges about $4 per person, and it is a maximum of five passengers per golf cart. The Curb Caddy app is available to download, and passengers can connect with one of the four drivers available. Passengers can also schedule a future ride if they know their evening plans.

HC: How did you become a Curb Caddy driver?

AG: I have known Matthias for a few years through our fraternity. Once his project became a business, he asked me to join as a driver. I became a driver during the spring 2022 semester, and I have been working for Curb Caddy ever since.

HC: As a driver, what is a typical night for you when you are on the clock?

AG: Every shift is different for each driver. A typical shift lasts for about four to five hours per night. I usually start at 8:00 p.m. and finish at 2:00 a.m. It is a long night, however, it goes by quickly. Once I connect with a passenger, I head to their location. I play music and ask for requests from my passengers. I enjoy meeting new people and getting them to their next location safely.

HC: How does Curb Caddy keep students safe on a night out?

AG: Curb Caddy is a quick transportation service for people in Tallahassee, especially students. It tends to be cheaper than Uber or Lyft. I also think Curb Caddy offers a more personable experience for both the driver and the passenger. For safety, each seat is equipped with a seat belt per passenger. We have a five-passenger limit, and we make sure each passenger is seated comfortably and safely. The speed limits in the area we travel through are about 35 miles per hour. We do not exceed 30 miles per hour when driving.

Andres, thank you for sharing your experiences as a driver. Your transportation services are appreciated in the Tallahassee community.
