The Ugliest Luxury Fashion Items on the Market Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the trendy luxury purse you want: it’s ugly. In a culture of online shopping and high consumerism, we have more than enough options when it comes to buying clothing. We see the latest and greatest on TikTok being shown to us by our favorite influencers and we immediately rush over to make a purchase. We see Louis Vuitton totes as we buy groceries or even Prada boots on our college campus. However, not all luxury items deserve constant attention and praise. In fact, I’m here to tell you that unfortunately, the majority of the expensive trendy items you use every day are embarrassingly terrible. So, in no particular order, here are some of my least favorite fashion pieces that I think should never be purchased.

“the tote bag” from marc jacobs

I’m so sorry, but these bring nothing to the table. While highly popular and seen practically all over Florida State’s (FSU) campus, these are so boring. If you aren’t familiar with the product, it’s a stiff rectangle with handles made of canvas material with the words “The Tote Bag” printed on the side. What about that is appealing? On top of that, $195 for this weird purse? No thank you. This is the epitome of a fashion flop: no style, no artistry. Please don’t keep buying them.

cartier screw-on “love” bracelets

This Valentine’s Day specialty bracelet missed the mark big time. A bracelet you can screw and unscrew from your wrist? It’s giving industrial and not in a good way. Sorry, but the only time I’d want to wear this would be if I were in the Hunger Games and from District 3. It’s Cartier, spend your money on something that actually looks good.

tory burch leather sandals

A moment of silence should be taken here so you can understand how truly distasteful these sandals are. I don’t have anything against the signature logo design that is used for the center of these shoes, but those straps holding it up are so thin that the center looks bulky. I don’t know, but when I see these shoes, I physically cringe.

I’m not sure what the inspiration for these shoes was, but either way, I’m scared. I saw a picture of these weird twisty sandals and it was a jump scare. I think the more I look at them, the more repulsed I become. I honestly need questions answered about why these are being bought. No more can be said about how terrible the design of this shoe is.

The brahmin “caroline” purse

I’d like to say that the picture speaks for itself, but I guess that must not be true considering how many of these bags I see. I don’t know what would compel someone to want an oddly colored snakeskin textured bag. You cannot tell me that you walked into a store, saw this purse and thought “My god, I need it.” I truly think this might be the most horrid bag to exist. I don’t know who is coming up with these color combinations but please, I beg you to stop.

I hope that you will be de-influenced from buying any of these items in the future. I think everyone would be better off in life if they never have to see these out in public. I sincerely urge you all to reconsider your purchases and save yourselves from the embarrassment of wearing any of these ever.
