As a Kali Uchis Fan, I’m Having the Time of My Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Right now is a great time to be a Kali Uchis fan (I say this with an abundance of firsthand experience). In recent months, there has been no shortage of news surrounding the Colombian singer and her recent activity. Whether it’s new song releases, tour date announcements or insinuations of future works, she has been keeping herself busy, and her fans excited. Here is a rundown of her activity throughout this new year, between songs that are already out and available to stream and important things to look forward to this year.

Kali Uchis started this year with the release of her single “I Wish You Roses” on Jan. 19, a song about releasing loved ones from your life without harboring feelings of resentment or bitterness. With a soft melody and a sweet goodbye message, Uchis creates a foundation for the themes of love and relationships that are to be seen in her work this year.

A few days following the release of her sultry new single and accompanying music video, Kali Uchis confirms the release of a new English-language album coming March 3, “Red Moon In Venus.” Uchis herself describes this new project as a message about love, a “timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak, faith, and honesty, reflecting the divine femininity of the moon and Venus.” I suggest any fans of her last album, the 2020 work Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios), keep this date in their calendars and get ready for a shift from her Spanish-language songs to her new English-language endeavors.

Along with the confirmation of her upcoming album, Uchis also announced her upcoming tour in support of Red Moon in Venus set for later this year. While it’s mainly a North American tour, she is scheduled to perform at the Chilean, Argentinian and Brazilian Lollapalooza, as well as a special concert in her home country of Colombia. And with special consideration to my fellow Florida State University students and Floridians, start saving your money and getting ready for Kali Uchis’ stops in Florida. She has two scheduled concerts in Florida, the first on April 30 at Miami’s FPL Solar Amphitheater at Bayfront Park, and the second on May 1 at Orlando’s Hard Rock Live venue. After seeing her live on March 20 during her opening for Tyler the Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost tour stop in Miami, I have tickets set and ready in my Apple wallet, waiting in anticipation to see her again.

While Kali Uchis is doing more than enough on her own to get her fans riled up, news of future collaborations has people on the edge of their seats. At this year’s 65th Annual Grammy Awards, the 2023 Best New Artist Grammy nominee Omar Apollo gave news about his collaborations with both Kali Uchis and Daniel Caesar, claiming they’ll be coming out sometime this year.

Most recently, Kali Uchis and her real-life boyfriend Don Toliver spread the love and affection of their relationship in their new collaborative single “4 Me.” Released Feb. 16, this song explores the story of a relationship in which a couple moves past common difficulties and instead focuses on the joy, affection and devotion they share for one another. A romantic track in the wake of Valentine’s Day, Uchis and Toliver shared part of the fondness and admiration that they feel for one another with us, making it a worthwhile listen for any true romantics and dance music lovers.
