Christmas Gifts: Enneagram Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

If you’re anything like me, you know the struggle of finding the perfect gift for a friend or relative. As I was trying to make my list of gifts to get this season, I thought of using personality types to determine the gift my recipient will get. I remembered that personality quizzes were all the rage during quarantine, and this is when I learned about the Enneagram personality quiz. With some more research and forcing my friends and family to take the test, I can confidently say it will help me pick out the perfect gifts. The Enneagram is composed of nine personality “types,” each with its own description. With the Christmas season cheerfully rolling in, what better way to gift than with the Enneagram?

Take the quiz here to find your type (and share it with friends and family) before reading the gift guide.

Type one

Oh, the perfectionist. I can relate to type Ones. Besides having perfectionist tendencies, this type can be described as rational and principled. I can’t think of a better gift than ban.do accessories. Made for the disciplined type One in your life, ban.do planners are perfectly organized and cute! With colorful designs and delightful quotes, these planners and notebooks will surely be a great gift (plus, what’s easier to wrap than books).

TYpe two

Type Twos would have won “Most Dependable” in high school. This type is very people-pleasing and generous. For your most caring friend (or the “mom” of the group) get them something that would show how much they mean to you. This personalized friendship necklace could do the trick. With a simple design but a big meaning, this necklace would make a type Two melt.

type three

This is my personality type! Threes are adaptive, ambitious and driven. If there’s anything I know about being a Three is I love bold accessories that make my outfit stand out. For your go-getter type Three, bold hair clips and a unique lipstick color will pair well with their fearless outfits. Check out these hair clips and this lipstick!

type four

The individualist. Type Fours are expressive and dramatic (in a good way). Fours love to express themselves creatively, so let’s feed that creativity. Get the type Four in your life a unique journal with some journaling supplies like brush pens and stickers! This journal from Papier will be the perfect companion for the type Four in your life. If your budget can afford it, add some markers or pens to complement the journal!

type five

These are your fellow detectives. Type Fives are innovative, observational and investigative. I’m sure type Fives love a good mystery story to feed their curious personality. For the type Five in your life, try getting them a mystery novel! The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave was just declared Goodreads’ top mystery and thriller novel of the year. But if you know that your type Five would appeal to something less contemporary, buy them an Agatha Christie (also a type Five) novel like this one.

type six

Type Sixes are security-oriented and responsible. For your most trustworthy friend, get them something to relax and have a worry-free day. The best gift for a type Six is a self-care package that they can use whenever they want a break. Bath and Body Works Christmas scents are debatably staples to have on hand during the holidays. Get your type Six a small package with this peppermint body lotion and pair it with some face masks.

type seven

The adventurous type. Type Sevens are spontaneous and fun-loving. I know a few type Sevens, and when we hang out, we always end up doing something incredibly fun. Getting the type Seven in your life something to document these memories might just be the best gift. Try buying this type a disposable film camera, where they can take pictures of all of their adventures. I would recommend buying this camera. Although basic, I love the way my pictures turn out and it has easily become my favorite to use.

type eight

These are the people who confidently walk into a room. Type Eights are decisive, fierce and determined. Type Eights are inspiring for anyone who knows them. For the type Eight in your life, I would buy them coffee or matcha to try so they can seize the day. You could buy them a trendy blend with a matching mug. Try this blend from Chamberlain Coffee with this matching mug. If not, another great option can be a gift card to their favorite local coffee shop.

Type nine

Last but not least, type Nine. Type Nines are reassuring, agreeable and easygoing. For your friend who’s just effortlessly cool, buy them a meaningful book that can be easy to read or flip through. My personal favorite coffee table read is Morgan Harper Nichols’ How Far You Have Come: Musings on Beauty and Courage. With beautiful quotes and poems, this book is truly a feel-good read included with amazing aesthetic illustrations.
