A Peek Inside the Life of Nicole Girten

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

At age 20, sophomore Nicole Girten has a remarkable list of accomplishments. An Editing, Writing, and Media major at Florida State, she has already developed a knack for setting out goals and making her dreams a reality. I got the chance to talk to her about some amazing experiences she has had in the past few years.

As a resident of the beautiful land that is Miami, Nicole worked for Nina Loren, a jewelry designer. Working with Nina Loren let her creativity progress and expand her love of fashion design. She also worked behind the scenes of runway shows such as Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out and Funkshion Fashion Week. Her fashion and writing accomplishments carried on into her first years here at Florida State. Nicole joined the chic up-and-coming Diverse World Fashion magazine and began writing multiple articles that were eventually published in the first two publications of the magazine. She has written articles about topics ranging from local businesses such as Wonsaponatime Vintage located in the Railroad Square art park, to the latest fall accessories. She is continuing her writing this semester with the magazine in addition to her school work and other extracurricular activities.

In between her studies, Nicole is also the Campus CEO for TrendSeeder. This previous summer she interned with TrendSeeder, a company devoted to promoting unique merchandise created by rising fashion designers. One of her most exciting experiences has been scoring an internship for the company in New York City. She has definitely experienced what life is like for a fashion intern. She tells Her Campus, “I relied on my cell phone to map out locations to deliver garments, and had to walk all over the streets of Manhattan”, which means she has firsthand knowledge about what it takes to put together a photo shoot for a major magazine company. She assisted the photo shoot director by organizing the garments and other important components of the shoot.

In October of 2013, she attended the prestigious Teen Vogue Fashion University. This event took her back to the big apple for yet another eye-opening experience into the fashion world. A three-day event, she was able to immerse herself into the lives of several highly prestigious members of the industry. Nicole earned the opportunity to listen to a wide range of fashion industry experts such as Amy Astley, the Editor-in-Chief at Teen Vogue, and everyone’s favorite it-girl, Alexa Chung! She even got the chance to pass out her business information to Amy on her way out of one of the sessions.

With enough writing credentials to make her worthy of working for any major publication (Vogue? Harper’s Bazaar?), even bigger things are in store for this driven young student.  Keep your eyes on her work by also following her adventures on her blog, ladynicolediane.com! On there, she posts about her New York trips, Miami escapades, and school days. Complete with photos and blog entries that explain what she is up to, you can stay connected with her as she makes a name for herself in the world of fashion and journalism.
