Are you interested in being able to help children in need? You can easily do that right here on campus. Florida State’s very own ASLC members are holding an event that directly gives back to children in need.

FSU’s ASLC (Askew Student Life Center) has a game hub for the students of FSU and is also open to the general public. You can rent video games, board games and gaming computers with a valid FSU ID. All the events held there and run by the organization are free to the general public. Some of these events do ask for voluntary donations, but donations are typically of low cost and go towards helping others through a charitable organization.

For instance, the Child’s Play Charity event.

Mark your calendars for one of the biggest gaming charity events at FSU. All proceeds support Child’s Play Charity which has been helping children’s hospital since 2003 by providing toys to children’s hospitals.

Noles Play for Child’s Play is an event held by the SLC Game Committee. All participants are eligible for prizes. The event will be held on March 30 in the ASLC building from noon until midnight. This is right on Learning Way, across from Traditions Hall.

The money from this event helps the organization to pay for the toys and games for children as they are undergoing their treatments and recoveries. The event runs from twelve noon until midnight; it includes casual board games, video games, tournaments, raffles and silent auctions. The prizes for the raffle and silent auctions range from donated gaming memorabilia, Perler beads and various items from local Tallahassee stores.

Shands Children’s Hospital has a playroom on every floor, every floor where you can help provide the funds to fill each one of those playrooms with toys for the kids. These toys are also given to some kids directly, the ones who are unable to leave the rooms or their beds.

Last year at this event, there was pizza given out and a total $5,523.05 was raised all for the children and was spent to get toys for the children that were staying at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. Shands Children’s Hospital has a playroom on every floor where you can help provide the funds to fill each one of those playrooms with toys for the kids. These toys are also given to some kids directly. One of the best things a child who is going through treatments and recoveries can receive is a fun toy, and you can help!

If you are someone who is interested in this cause, you can reach out to the SLC Gaming Committee, or show up the day of the event and donate $5 to the cause.
