FSU’s Center of Global Engagements International Education Month

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Attending a school that respects and represents diversity has impacted my academic career greatly through my four years at Florida State University. I have come to further appreciate and educate myself through many cultures and customs. The love for learning I have about global interactions and interworking has led me to pursue my degree in International Affairs. Florida State University has amazing opportunities to honor the importance of global experiences which includes The Center for Global Engagement’s International Education Month. Many may not know but another reason to be proud of being a Seminole is that Florida State University is “an award-winning national leader in campus internationalization.” International Education Month helps FSU honor its international education. Through the month of November, FSU celebrates the international connection in a globalized campus community. If looking for ways to get involved and further expand your appreciation for different cultures around the globe. FSU has many different events you can attend on campus!

International Coffee Hour

Join FSU students every Friday on The Globe First Floor from 5-6:30 p.m. to network and talk to students, professors, and others from around the world! This event brings students, faculty, and attendees a taste of food from a featured culture. This is a fun way to meet new people, try international foods and learn to appreciate different customs!

English Conversation Club

The Center for Global Engagement hosts the English Conversation Club. This is a club in which all levels of people who speak English as their second language practice conversations in English in a fun and friendly atmosphere. This club meets Monday-Friday 4-5 p.m. in the Globe Dining Room. Students are also able to volunteer and even though applications for Spring 2023 are closed if you are interested keep an out for this opportunity in the fall!

Co-Host Global Café

Looking for an opportunity to volunteer to serve cuisine from around the world? Apply to Co-Host a Global Café! This program increases awareness as well as an appreciation for diverse cultures on Florida States campus. The Global Café not only is a fundraiser for diverse communities but also a great way to spend an hour listening to music, eating international authentic food and meeting other students from all across the globe! Florida State has unique opportunities to emerge yourself in different cultures and create a better understanding of people from all walks of life. It is important to educate ourselves on different cultures and customs so that we may better understand the world and the people in our community. These events are dedicated to supporting, honoring and celebrating diversity and fostering inclusivity in the Florida State community. I am a senior at Florida State University majoring in International Affairs with a concentration in Public Administration. A fun fact about me is I was born on Valentine's Day. I find happiness through small things like reading, listening to podcasts, and nature!
