Disclaimer: Spoiler warning!

Jujutsu Kaisen fans got to see Jujutsu Kaisen 0 arrive in the U.S. theaters on March 18, 2022. It will be available to watch both in English dub and in Japanese with English subtitles. It premiered in Japan on Dec. 24, 2021, so therein lies some wait time.

While fans may be most familiar with what season one covered in the anime, some may not be as familiar with this prequel story. The famous character, Yuji Itadori, is not yet introduced in this movie. Likewise, this movie explains things of the past fans don’t yet know. Of course, fans of the Manga knew what to expect when coming to theaters to view this film, as it is covered in the books. If you are not already familiar with the story, Jujutsu Kaisen is beginner-friendly because it is a prequel. Keep in mind that some questions are not addressed in the movie due to them being discussed during season one of the anime.

In Jujutsu Kaisen 0, we follow Yuta Okkotsu. He is a boy who has cursed his childhood sweetheart and bound her raging power as a curse to him. With such immense power looming around him, Tokyo Jujutsu High School tries to tame his curse. Unfortunately, one of the villains steps in and tries to obtain this curse for his use, and Yuta finds out how to break the curse during the course of this conflict. Throughout the duration of this story, viewers also get to understand why Geto is as much of a villain as he is. The movie dives into his ways of thinking, motives and evil plans. The world-building that occurs during this film is important.

The movie has viewers see some familiar faces such as Maki, Gojo, Panda, Toge and more. The movie dives into Toge’s personality a little bit more than the anime taps into. The audience learns a little bit more about Maki as well. Many familiar faces of Tokyo Jujutsu High are shown towards the climax of the story when multiple battle scenes are occurring. Some faces audiences don’t see are Megumi and Kugisaki because like Itadori, they are first-year students.

The manga series was created by Gege Akutami and is 18 volumes. The film was put out by Crunchyroll and runs for one hour and 45 minutes. The anime adaptation is 24 episodes in total, each one lasting about 20 minutes. Audiences currently cannot access the movie anywhere other than in theaters. Unfortunately, it is not on any streaming platform and it is unknown whether it will make it to streaming platforms.

Movie merchandise has already hit stores. In stores like Zumiez, Hot Topic and more, you can get your Jujutsu Kaisen merch. Most websites are displaying positive reviews of the movie as well. With season one and the movie now being out, audiences anticipate the rest of the manga being adapted into a season two.
