School is officially over and with that comes warm weather, beach trips, and vacation. However, no drive to any summer destination is complete without the windows down, warm air, and music blasting. Here is my summer playlist of new releases for summer 2023.
1. “Where you are” by john summit & hayla
This song was released in March of this year and is in the music category of dance/electronic. If you find yourself in the need to dance, you might want to put this one on full volume. This song brings great energy and vibes in every second and can instantly brighten the mood.Â
2. “thinkin’ bout me” by morgan wallen
If you love country music, or even if you don’t, this song is still a must. Morgan Wallen released his new album One Thing at a Time right before the New Year, and it is just as great as his previous albums. “Whiskey Friends” and “One Thing at a Time” are also in this album as new releases and are definitely worth giving a listen to as well.Â
3. “rock and a hard place” by bailey zimmerman
Released in 2022 in the category of country, this is a slower-paced song that still fits the summer vibe. The lyrics tell a story of what started as a great relationship getting into a hard place and perfectly portray the feeling of being stuck in a relationship/not knowing to keep trying or give up on something that was once really great.Â
4. “american jesus” by nessa barrett
Nessa Barrett is new to the music industry and rose to fame through TikTok. She just released this single on April 14 and the song sounds very much like something Lana Del Rey or Melanie Martinez might produce. It is technically in the genre of pop but sounds very alternative rock and has an overall very unique sound to it.
5. “i’m not pretty” by megan moroney
This is another country song just released in 2023. The lyrics tell the story of jealousy between a new girlfriend and the ex-girlfriend but in the modern day with Instagram and social media. Although the story behind the song might not give the greatest vibes, the intent of the song is to spread the message that saying mean things about other people on social media is still bullying, whether it’s an ex’s new girlfriend or anyone else. The song also sounds great in addition to the story it tells.Â
6. “relaxing my eyes” by antor and abel balder
Released in 2022, this single is one mandatory on the playlist. It is in the category of dance and electronic, but it also sounds very much like disco music and has an extremely unique sound. There are some lyrics, but the focus of the song is more on the vibes it brings and less on the story behind it. The song is great for bringing up the energy of the room and creating good energy.Â
