“More Honest Than Ever”: The New Era of New Hope Club

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

New Hope Club are a pop trio born out of London who quickly rose to stardom following their first few releases. The trio is composed of Blake Richardson, George Smith and Reece Bibby, who are all musicians on top of singing. You’ll see Blake doing the majority of the vocals and some guitar riffs, George will be playing the bass in the back and Reece will either operate the drums or contribute some riffs. Since June of this year, the trio has been intermittently releasing single albums, starting off with “Getting Better” and “Girl Who Does Both” on June 15. This release was followed by “Call Me A Quitter” and “Whatever” on Aug. 17 and finally “L.U.S.H.” and “Walk It Out” on Oct. 26. This week, I got to sit down with the boys of New Hope Club to see a few unreleased music videos and talk about these past few releases.

The New Hope Club boys designated these six singles as their most personal and vulnerable releases yet, as they have had the most creative freedom and involvement in them.

“Our first album [released in 2020] was a collection of our experiences at the time, but this is more honest and real than ever. We’ve had more time to experiment and just feel everything out.”

It was clear that they are incredibly proud of these releases and are excited to put more of their own work out there for the fans to hear.

“The whole album is a step forward from our last album, but we’re always trying to advance our sound and challenge ourselves lyrically and production-wise. This album has solidified who we are as New Hope Club more than any other.”

The boys have finally found their musical identity after years of experimenting with their sound, and their fans are loving it. The creation of these songs—which appear to be pre-release singles for a new album—was a combination of brainstorming sessions and the boys just jamming out together. They also revealed that the single covers all showcase a different primary color that they feel “fits the vibe” of the song, which they concluded after a creative session.

The “L.U.S.H.” music video seemed to confuse viewers a bit, as the visuals were the exact opposite of what was portrayed in the lyrics, “This video showcases our funnier side in the sense that we’re poking fun at ourselves and the fact that we don’t take things too seriously ever.”

The music video for “L.U.S.H.” is a reflection of how much fun they all have together and their witty personalities. The idea of New Hope Club performing a single they deemed “desperate” and “sexy” in front of two senior citizens is what made viewers see the irony and love them even more for their comedy.

The group also just wrapped up a USA Tour this past summer that spanned from mid-July to early August. The “Getting Better USA Tour” had 12 dates across the U.S., from New York to San Francisco. Before this, the last time the trio had toured in the U.S. was before 2020.

The boys had nothing but good things to say about their experience on tour, “It was so nice to come back to America after 3+ years of not doing a show there. It felt like a celebration to see the fans again after so long, like a long-awaited reward after the pandemic.”

The trio also performed some festival dates in Asia after their U.S. leg of the tour had concluded, which led them to meet many K-pop artists that they took inspiration from.

“We just came back from Asia and met a lot of K-pop artists, who we admire a lot. We’d love to go on tour with a K-pop artist someday.”

Being able to appreciate the music and work ethic of other artists, regardless of a cultural or language barrier is what New Hope Club does best. Ever since they released their first EP, “Welcome to the Club” in 2017, containing their hit song “Fixed,” the New Hope Club boys have created music that reached people all over the world, regardless of location. They have fans in Latin America, Asia, other parts of Europe and even the USA, solidifying their place as a force to be reckoned with in the industry.

“It’s so amazing to connect with fans in other countries. It’s just insane to think that even though English isn’t even their first language, they learn our music because they love us so much. It blows our mind, really.”

The New Hope Club boys are not only talented but also incredibly humble and grounded. Their past six single releases have all been sonically unique and come with equally eccentric music videos. The trio revealed they have more music on the way and are excited for the fans to hear the new releases as well. The latest release, “L.U.S.H.” is out now on all streaming platforms and its music video is out on YouTube.

It’s clear that the New Hope Club boys are planning to make their mark in the industry and increase their fame with these new releases, so I hope the world is listening.
