Meet Hannah Weinbaum: The Career Center’s Newest Mock Interviewer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Name: Hannah Weinbaum

Year: Junior

Hometown: Palm Beach

Major: Human Resources and Marketing

Job: Mock Interview Mentor at Florida State University

Her Campus (HC): What’s it like conducting interviews with students of all different majors?

Hannah Weinbaum (HW): It’s exciting because you get to learn a lot about different occupations. It gives me more insight into things that I probably wouldn’t have learned if it wasn’t for my job!

HC: How would you describe your fashion style for work?

HW: My style for work is comfortable, but also fashionable. My favorite thing to wear is a solid shirt with a colorful necklace!

HC: Where are your favorite places to shop for appropriate but stylish work clothes?

HW: My favorite places to shop are Banana Republic, J Crew, and Ann Taylor Loft.

HC: Can you tell us a little bit about the recent competition you took part in?

HW: I took part in the InNOLEvation Business Case Competition. Target was the company that sponsored it, which was really exciting, because I shop at Target all the time! I learned a lot about how to solve a problem for a company. Although I ended up not winning, I gained a lot of experience from it!

HC: I understand you also hold a position in FSU’s human resources club. How is it balancing your work at the Career Center with your club position?

HW: I usually don’t have a problem balancing work with my position! They are actually both pretty similar, because at work I am constantly interviewing people, which is a huge part of human resources. In my club, I also learn about and gain experience in human resources. I love doing both of them!

HC: Do you have any advice for younger students looking to become involved in human resources? I know it’s such a small major!

HW: I would recommend that younger students try to gain experience early on in their studies! There aren’t as many opportunities for human resources majors as there are for other majors. I would also suggest joining the Society for Human Resource Management. They offer a lot of great networking opportunities, which allows you to gain valuable skills!

HC: Now for some fun questions! What are you watching on Netflix right now?

HW: I love Netflix! I am currently rewatching Gossip Girl. Surprisingly, it’s much better the second time. I am also watching Supernatural, which is pretty different from Gossip Girl!

HC: If you could have coffee with anyone, who would it be and why?

HW: I would definitely have coffee with Howard Schultz, the CEO of Starbucks. Starbucks is my favorite coffee shop, and I would love to work there someday in their human resources or marketing department. I can also talk about coffee for hours!
