Julian Chang is a fashion icon that I am so happy to interview. I have gotten the opportunity to meet Julian in the past and it’s safe to say he is one of the most iconic designers I have seen at work. He takes his time perfecting his craft with immaculate design strategies, and help from amazing staff in his facility, where each piece he works on is handcrafted to perfection.

Julian was born and raised in Lima, Peru. He moved to America for college where he went to Miami International University of Art and Design and graduated with a bachelor’s in design. After collecting his degree, he quickly moved on to showing off his talent by becoming an assistant designer for a large manufacturer. After eight months of work, he was promoted to head designer and his career really took off.

I am beyond honored to be able to say I have met with Julian before and he is such an inspiring designer. My amazing talented grandmother is close friends with Chang has known him since his days in college at Miami International University and she continues to stay in touch with Chang through the years of his career. I am thrilled to have asked Julian questions about his career in the world of fashion!

Her Campus (HC): First of all, just give me a brief summary of your childhood, growing up and how you found a passion for fashion and design? I’d love to know how you got into fashion and design and what made you so passionate about it!

Julian Chang (JC): I was born in Lima, Peru, and moved to Miami for college. I attended the Miami International University for Art and Design. I received a degree in design. I moved onto a larger company after school and became head designer. I launched my own label where I created many evening pieces.

HC: I’d also love for you to explain what your normal day at work consists of? What do you do on your busier days at work?

JC: Designs, projects and overlooking my staff is what a usual day at work consists of. I own around 600 boutiques nationally and internationally. I opened my first boutique in Miami, on the upper east side where I continue to use as a workspace.

HC: What are some projects you’re most proud of?

JC: I am proud of the accomplishments my team and I have accomplished. I have gotten to work with some very well-known designers, companies and celebrities.

HC: Describe your experiences with some celebrities and big brands you’ve worked with or met!

JC: I have had the honor to work with Paris Hilton, Gloria Estefan and Janet Jackson. Those are my top celebrities I have worked with. I have also worked with magazines such as Vogue. It has been a pleasure being able to work with them and see my work going different places and being known by so many.
