Line Dance 2017: A Recap of FSU’s Biggest Philanthropy of the Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Last Thursday, all seventeen of FSU’s Panhellenic sororities competed in FSU’s largest Greek-run philanthropy of the year: Line Dane. If you are unfamiliar with the term, Line Dance is a dance competition hosted by FSU’s chapters of Pi Kappa Phi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Pi Kappa Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Kappa Tau.

Proceeds from Line Dance go towards FSU’s School of Business. These funds are raised through events such as, share-it nights, and ticket and t shirt sales. The event itself happens at the Tucker Civic Center.

The winning team must have the most participation in attendance of events or share-it nights, as well as in ticket and t shirt sales, as well as the best overall routine. Participation is also raised through Facebook likes on each sorority’s team photo.

How does the dance competition work? Every PanHellenic sorority comes up with a five-minute themed routine equipped with music, costumes, and even props. Judges select a winner based off of each sorority’s performances.

It is no secret that these dances aren’t just made overnight; every participant of Line Dance dedicates hours of hard work to multiple rehearsals leading up to the actual performance.

The hard work from these ladies was worth it though. The turnout for Line Dance was incredible and every sorority that performed was supported by other girls within it cheering them on. All the sororities gave phenomenal performances. The energy of each girl performing onstage was so high and full of excitement. If you were in the audience, you wanted to be up there on stage with the other girls.

The top three winning teams were, in third place, Delta Gamma, second place, Kappa Alpha Theta, and in first place, Pi Beta Phi.

Dance captain from Pi Beta Phi, Claire Larocca, spoke on the feeling of winning saying, “Placing first in line dance means more to me than just a trophy. It means that the diligent long hours and hard work we put into this routine showed through on stage”.

Larocca believed that “Having these girls dance with me for my last performance was such an amazing memory that I will cherish forever. We couldn’t have done it without the support and determination of our entire chapter. Dance has been, and always will be my creative outlet, and I had so much fun dancing next to 12 of the sweetest girls I know! I am so proud of what we all accomplished together as a team!”
