For me, a new season always calls for a new Spotify playlist! I always like to refresh my music catalog every few months, whether it be with a new artist, new songs, or a new playlist. By doing this, I not only feel more organized, but it can be nostalgic to look back on what I was listening to in years past. This season is particularly lighthearted and bright, so here are some of my picks for the best songs to add to your playlist this spring.

“20 Something” by SZA

If there was one album I could pick to encapsulate the entirety of spring, it would be Ctrl by SZA. The R&B album carries a very soft and flowy sound throughout, which is ideal for those sunny spring days.

One of my favorite songs currently is the final track, “20 Something.” While I do happen to find it very relatable since I just turned 20 a few months ago, the soothing sound and calming vocals ease all my anxieties. Particularly, I love the lyrics when SZA wishes “good luck on them 20 somethings,” and “God bless these 20 somethings.” It’s the perfect peaceful and positive energy to bring into the new year.

“Daylight” by Harry Styles

If I could, I would label myself as the No. 1 “Daylight” fan, but I know that might be a bit of a bold claim. This song is one of my all-time favorites from Harry Styles, with it being in my top five on Spotify Wrapped two years in a row. Harry’s House is a very springy album to me, but this song for sure takes the cake. I love the funky yet synth-like beat that this song has, along with the addition of heavy drum solos in between the verses. The lyrics also bring spring to life with “If I was a bluebird, I would fly to you,” along with allusions to honey and bicycles. Nothing can be sweeter than that!

“Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman

I’ve recently been introduced to this song through Tracy Chapman’s recent Grammy performance with Luke Combs. I enjoyed how well their voices meshed while singing this classic and the relaxing feel I get from this song. A bit of an older tune, the original was released in 1988 by Chapman but had since made a resurgence through Combs’ chart-topping cover. I like the eased guitar instrumentals used in this song; they give off a very homey and comforting feel which is perfect for those spring sunsets.

“Fearless” by Taylor Swift

It’s a bit of a blast from the past, but “Fearless” never gets old. The album Fearless in itself feels very much like April to May, with descriptions of going to school and teenage love. I love the title track specifically because it reminds me of the feeling of having a cute little spring fling or a crush. Along with this, there are many lyrical descriptions of rain (such as “In a storm in my best dress” and “There’s something about the way the street looks when it’s just rained”), which is very common during this season. I’m going to be holding up my hands as a heart and dancing through the storms to this song for the next few months!

“Kingston” by Faye Webster

Even though I would say this song could also belong on my nighttime playlist because it’s perfect for dozing off to sleep, I would say it also captures the perfect spring vibe. This love song includes soft, sweet vocals by Webster and a bit of a country twang. My favorite part of this track is at the final chorus, where Webster repeats phrases such as “Baby, tell me where you want to go” and “Give you everything I have and more” over a soothing saxophone fadeout in the background. For those spring nights when you either can’t fall asleep or just something to lay out to in the sun, this song is the perfect choice.

Whether it be an upbeat guitar solo from “Daylight” or the soothing saxophone from “Kingston,” I think my spring 2024 playlist has got it all! I’m so excited to take in all these songs throughout the next few months.
