Hey future Lex, how are you?

Me? Well for starters, I’m mentally drained from the stress caused by the 2020 Presidential election, the overwhelming weight created by this current semester and the pandemic going on. Pleasure and thrills are no longer as easy to come by. But, please don’t start worrying about me. To keep myself entertained, I’ve listened to “Night Changes” by One Direction on repeat in hopes of trying to relive the good old days.

However, I do have some exciting news. I got a new job! Now I know you have high expectations, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves. No, this is not a research assistant position or an internship with a fashion magazine company. I got a job at my favorite restaurant. I know we said we were done with food service jobs after what we went through this summer, but I have a good feeling about this one. Also, it finally gives me an excuse to actually leave this apartment.

Hey, but the good news doesn’t stop there. I submitted an application for a teaching position and I moved on to the group interview phase! You know how I feel about group interviews, so I’m definitely going to need all the luck I can get.

That reminds me, are you still constantly taking on more than you should? This has always been one of your weaknesses but I understand it’s hard to resist when there’s so much you’re interested in. You do always end up making it work though, I really never understood how. Oh, wait yes, I do. You just have to sacrifice some of your mental health, right? Well, it always ends up being worth it!

Anyway, let’s continue talking about you! So, you graduated from college. What happened next? Did you ever get that apartment in New York City you never stopped talking about? Or was it San Francisco? Or London? You always had so many different ideas, I could never keep up.

As for grad school, I would love to know what path you ended up choosing. I remember you were deciding between becoming an economics professor or a math teacher. I just know that regardless of what you ended up choosing, you’re going to do amazing things! Your future students are going to be so lucky to have you and you will truly make a difference in their lives.

Well, I really just wanted to catch up and see how things were going. Your ambition and determination have taken you so far and I know this is only the beginning. You are one of the most hard-working people I have ever known and no matter what, I will always be immensely proud of all you have accomplished.

As for me, I will continue to keep pushing even though sometimes all my goals seem to still be so far out of reach. Ultimately, everything I do is for you and I really hope that I am able to make you proud.

Please don’t forget to take care of yourself and I’ll see you in a couple of years!

Sincerely,

Lex 2020
